I purchased my first Festool last week - the TI15 Hybrid Impact Drill. I spent the first day driving in 2.5 inch screws - no problem. The second day I ran electric wire and, in drill mode, bore 1/2 inch holes in framing lumber with a paddle bit. The first three holes went quickly, but on the fourth hole the drill sounded its warning beeps and stopped working halfway into the hole. I let the drill rest 20 min, put a fresh battery on, and attempted to continue drilling the hole. The drill started smoking from the motor, groaned, and did not function at all. I subsequently returned the drill to my local retailer for a refund.

I didn't know I could kill a "a true, no-compromise, high-performance impact driver with full drill functionality" (verbatim from the Festool website) with a 1/2 inch paddle bit.

I know I'm not the first to have a negative report on the TI15, but I thought I'd share my experience.

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry that the TI 15 didn't work out for you but this is exactly why we have our 30-day guarantee. There's no better way to check out a tool than in your own hands on a job or in your shop.

I hope your next experience with one of our tools better meets your expectations.

Feel free to contact me if you ever need assistance with one of our products or have questions.

Thanks.

Could festool please just make a ti18. Not a hybrid just an impact. Please ! Hybrid thingies just silly. My impact can drill rough pilots anyway. I would just live to get out of the makita battery buying game.

Anyone out there using the TI 15 as a dedicated impact? Has it ever ran out of torque?  concrete screws M12,M14?  10" timber screws?

I've got the T15 and I need to add an impact driver to my arsenal.

I really like the T15 and it would be really nice to get the TI 15 but if it aint a working impact driver I might aswell get a Bosch combo (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Sonderset-Bosch-GSR18VE-2Li-GDX18V-Li-3-x-4-0Ah-AL1860CV-2-x-L-Boxx-Gr-2-/111177424572?pt=_DE_Haus_Garten_Heimwerker_Elektrowerkzeuge_&hash=item19e2b0debc)

I really liked the feel of the 'new' bosch when I tried them out.

I just got the TI 15 yesterday and have only played with it a little but it's got a ton of power, at least as much as the Milwaukee m18 (non-brushless haven't tried the fuel impact)
From what I understand the TI without the adapter is a true impact it's just the adaptors that make it a hybrid.

I've had my Ti15 for a six months now.  I only use it in impact mode.  The one thing you have to keep in mind is that it's only a 15v impact (and that's not a bad thing for most regular day to day work).  It will run 10" timber and reasonably sized concrete screws but not nearly as well as a good 18v impact.  That's not say the Ti15 isn't a good impact, it is, in my opinion.  As long as your expectations for a 15v impact are realistic I think you'll find the the Ti a good tool for the most common day to day work.  It's just not going to stack up as well to some of the big bad 18v impacts for the heavy duty jobs.

Good points, thank you very much for your input. I think I will go with the Ti 15 as a dedicated impact.
100Nm should be plenty for general work.
