Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little bit, but this will be a great place to post those experiences and tips from the class.

Hey, the class ended not too long ago.  Hopefully some of the attendees will share their new found knowledge and tips with us in the coming minutes, hours, days.  It is the holiday season after all.  ;D.

The router training at Festool was well worth the drive and time. The staff at Festool are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Our trainers; Rick Bush (product manager) and Brian Sedgeley (tool applications trainer) were great. Their experience with the entire Festool line is impressive to say the least. This class focused on routers but they made the time to address any questions about other tools as they arose.

All of the attendees had some experience with the Festool line of tools, some more than others. As this class was made up of professional carpenters I learned as much from the other attendees as I did from the Festool staff. A big bonus for me. The methods of work that each of us use in our daily lives was as varied as  the individual.

One thing that was very apparent was the desire of Festool to improve their tools to meet the needs of the end user. We spent as much time answering their questions about how we use the tools as they did answering ours. I've never had another tool company ask me that. They also explained the time and difficulty required to bring a new tool to market. Aside from the financial requirements, which are big; the UL approval can be daunting. A big hurdle time wise. I have a new found respect for the effort involved. So take heart folks. The people at Festool are working hard to deliver new and better tools to market. It just takes time.

Another important issue for Festool USA is training. These classes/focus groups are a important part of tool development/refinement. They want to know how we work and ways to make our jobs easier while at the same time producing quality results. Faster, Easier, Smarter. I wonder where that came from? In the future you will see more types of training being offered. These classes will most likely have a small fee attached to cover the cost of consumables. Speaking only for myself, this would still be a 'smoking hot deal'. I spend money on a regular basis to keep current on tools and techniques in the building industry. Some times I get my moneys worth, some times I don't. In the case of these training classes I know I would.

I don't have the typing skills to cover all the technical areas covered in the router class in this post, but if you have a Festool router or accessory question just post it.

I can say the OF 2200 router is much easier to handle than I thought, considering its size and power. It is a gentle beast of a tool.

Thanks again to the folks at Festool for a great time: Brian, Rick, Martin, Shane, Michael and Minnie

Chuck,

Glad to see you here posting.  As time permits, we would love to hear more.

Dear FOG members

Well, I have just come back from advanced router class in beautiful Lebanon, Indiana. It was a wonderful time Brian, Rick and Minnie were extremely kind and I can say I enjoyed every minute of time there. It was wonderful  using the full line routers and accessories and finally have friends to talk with who could speak Festool.  After seeing and using all the excellent tools I can now tell my fellow FOG members what I am going to do. I am going take back the children's Christmas presents, after all they still have that old bike and out grown boots and it is not like they really need any more video games, so I am taking them all back and going buy those children what I really need . A Festool 2200 router.  I used it just yesterday and I assure you that the 2200 is this seasons must have gift for the children of any Festool owner that has a use for, or a lust for a router of almost limitless power and yet is as smooth as the finest silk, not that I know anything about silk.
I was frankly cautious when I first saw it. I was afraid it would be as cumbersome as routing with an outboard motor. But it is as smooth and steady and easy to use as a 1010 cutting a quarter inch cove, something I do know all about. Think of how my children's eyes will widen with ..... well it is so hard to tell what makes a child's eyes widen.  When they open that great big gorgeous systainer  and see what their father has gotten for them for Christmas.
My wife, Oh yes my wife, the look on her face when I tell her how now I am going to remake all the closet, passage, cabinet, cupboard and vanity doors in my house and any other house you can get into with the finest raised panel doors on the smoothest and best 3+ horsepower router on earth. Wow, I can hardly wait.

Merry Christmas,
Delusionally yours,
Dan

P.S. The accessory kit is very nice too.

P.P.S When the much anticipated  and semi legendary  CMS router table finally  comes to market my wife will still need something for her birthday.

It is no wonder the Festool trainers love their job. A great shop full of tools with a wall of natural light. Festool heaven perhaps?

One nice thing about attending training in the winter is bulky coats. hehehe  [wink]

You guys are a riot!

Had a blast for sure.  Gotta say the same, that 2200 is a tank but once you start using her it's smoooooooooth as silk.  It was a pleasure meeting everyone and listening to all those new ideas.  Dan, you are a card my friend.  And, heck of an idea you came up with on the MFS.  The trainers were the best,  they listened to things we thought should change and told us why some things would not  :)

OK, gonna be a few days but I will post pics etc.  Seems like things got a little hectic while I was gone.....Aghhh but all for the good...MORE TOOLS  :)

WOW

This kind of fell off the planet!  I gotta admit, I have not had the time to post a single thing lately about anything.......  It's crazy here.  I had a minute and just wanted to say I didn't forget the pics I want to post.  Might be a few days but I'm gonna get it done.  I swear I have not had a minute to myself in a month  :)

Hope all you classmates are doing good.  Johann..Buddy..You out there Bro.

Hey Eclipse.........LMAO  You know who you are.  The pictures will explain that nick name  :)

Stay frosty fellas

OK..Here is some more pics.  And yes...fell free to drool over the last few pics.  I'm so glad my wife has a boss in Germany  :)  I so gotta have one

I gotta give Rick and Brian a big thank you for such a great time.  The great things about these guys is they also learned from us.  None of this "we created it we know everything attitude".  I gotta say it was refreshing.  Brian got the name eclipse cause well...his head is big and always in the way.......Hey, I love ya man  :)  The man is on serious overdrive.  I was getting tired just watching him at times.  But, the Man knows his stuff.  Then ya have Rick, the total opposite of Brian...Cool, calm and Like Brian very much on his game.  I thought it was cool when we came up with a different way to set up the MFS for a job.  The man went and wrote himself a note and came back to tell us he wrote that note to himself.

I do wish they had a way to sell us stuff while we were there.  I understand why not but...waaaaaaaaaaaaa  I'm spoiled.  Got some LR32 goodies for Christmas from the kids and wife.  Still need some more but my b-day is right around the corner...hint hint

Would I go again..FOR SURE.  The Hotel I was set up in was top notch and the ride to Festool was very short....Cause Eclipse was driving and...WOW  Man must be a NASCAR fan.

I also had the pleasure to meet several Festool folks and gotta say I felt like I knew them for a lifetime.  Good god man..Minnie and my wife are now email pals swapping dog pictures  :)  Gotta say that Minnie was a blast

So..When is the next class  :)

Joe
