So, today I mark the second anniversary since I posted my first entry on FOG.  Oh what a massive odyssey it's been since! [eek]

I started with either a 420 Jigsaw or a CXS...I can't remember which, and it's been the Green Koolaid ever since.

My goal a couple of years ago was to create what I call the "Lifelong Tool" workshop, where I would buy and own tools and equipment that would last me the rest of my life without feeling the need at some point to upgrade further. My income has been at a level where I can sort of afford the best products I could find, and with full knowledge that there is a finite end to that income....so buy now while I can, and have the tools and equipment that will last me through my retirement years. Festool has certainly lived up to my expectations, and has earned my $$ while I build out my dream shop.

Along the way, I had the great fortune of living in Germany for a couple of years while my wife, who is an Air Force Officer, was stationed there. We were exempt from German VAT taxes and I took advantage of buying a number of Festool NAINA tools and equipment that I couldn't have purchased in the USA. These included the not-yet-released Conturo Edge Bander, ASA 5000 Boom Arm with Energy/Air box, and the Vac/Sys system. Awesome!

In the States, I relied on ToolNut, Bob Marino, ToolTime, Tom Bellemere, Amazon, and others for the products that would replace the hodgepod of power tools that littered my shop...all which have been sold and replaced by Festool. I couldn't be more pleased! [big grin]  I am now totally committed to the "Festool System", and am completely in tune with the company's approach.

I now have very few "China/Taiwan" produced equipment, and only from those few companies who have extensive quality control measures in place in those manufacturing plants. Everything else is European or North American made, and I couldn't be happier.

I am now in a position where I only look to Festool to introduce new products that I may have an interest in. I have everything else! [eek]  Call me a Fanboy, Collector, or any other derogatory name, but no matter... I am in Festool heaven, and I couldn't care less! [tongue]

Two years!  Can't believe I've come this far. It's a new experience, and I am so looking forward to eventual retirement when I have the opportunity to spend a lot more quality time with my tools "making".  In the meantime, I am still toiling away flying helicopters on a six-week on, six-week off schedule in Nigeria...where I don't have access to ANY tools! [sad]

Thank you Festool for creating the dreams...and one that has come to fruition for me!  Now please make something I don't have already, and that will excite me into purchasing again! [big grin]

From 28 May 2013's first purchase:

To this today after two years... Whew! [eek]

It's been a wild and wacky ride! [big grin]

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank,

That's awesome!!  I've been kind of aware of your situation from your general presence on the FOG, but it's nice to hear the story. And that pic of all the gear makes me jealous! I won't call you any names, as I think Festool is great and I enjoy your enthusiasm.

Though I would Advise a trip to the Doctors, as you definitely got GAS

Frank,  can't wait for the time when you can devote all of your time and energy to using the tools.  The hunt may be satisfying but the creating can be heavenly.

All the best.

Peter

As long as you're having fun, good on ya!  I'm not envious of all the Festool you have, but I AM envious of how incredibly happy you seem to be!  [laughing]

There are far, far worse things to be addicted to.

Congratulations Frank.
Over the past two years I have enjoyed reading of your journey. Although you have some detractors here on the FOG [well who doesn't!], you have provided us with vicarious purchasing, workshop ideas, debates, and some of your life style and related experiences of Germany and Nigeria.

Looking at my Avatar some will note that this month is also my two year anniversary. In those two years, apart from accessories, my purchase ratio to yours Frank has been 5:?  [big grin]

Is that the time? Must get down to the Untidy Shop, much to do today. [eek]  [smile]

Frank,

Happy anniversary!  Thanks for the great posts (including the recent Veg Trug build) and hope you can use all your tools soon!

Your post got me checking to see what my anniversary date was- by chance it is today as well, but you got me by 2 hours!  I bought my first Festool in 2007- original DF500 Domino with a CT-22 as a package.  Next was ETS125 sander and the rest, as they say is history.  I was very skeptical about Festool - even though I loved the Domino- I just didn't think the sanders or any of the other tools could be worth the price.  I was proven wrong!  Like you, I don't care about the name-calling.  I'll have the last laugh of having better quality tools.  Unlike you though, I don't have 66 systainers (yet)- about half that.

Raise a glass to many more Festool years to come!

Regards,
Gerald

Thank you Frank for your positivity.  I really appreciate your posts and showing what you have done with your festools.  Warm regards, Bill

Frank, where is the MFT, CMS and Kapex....?

Time to go shopping.  ;D

Wasn't pictured, but I DO have the Kapex and two MFT's! [smile]  No interest in the CMS because I have an existing router table and table saw (with Incra fences, jigs, and miter gauges).

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks all for your kind words.
The FOG makes waking up in the morning in Nigeria a great way to start the day. Reading the unreads and two cups of coffee are my routine every day before getting in the bus and heading to work with our armed escort!

What I'm really looking forward to in the future is having the time to spend in the shop with the fruit of my loins!  He's already a great helper, and thinks the CXS is the "bestest" tool in the whole world! [big grin] He gets to do a lot of the easy screwing. He will definitely be a woodworker! In the meantime, he has other priorities.....

One week down in Nigeria, and five to go before getting back to my wife, son... and my tools! Ugh!  [sad]

Salutations from Africa, and posting while the electricity is working for a few minutes!!! [huh]

A few of my day job.....

The only Festool in Nigeria....

So what do you do in Nigeria? Is it in oil and gas?

Yes, I fly for the oil companies, both offshore and swamp locations.  It's a living.....

Frank

How time's flying by with a pilot at the helm.  [smile]

By the way, didn't you buy that ASA boom arm too? How's that hanging?

Frank ... you know you should probably be storing them inside don't you [wink]

I have to do some floor work in my shop before I can mount it. We're having a steel beam set into the floor, and anchored in the attic. It's all part of a staged plan of completing my shop.

Stages are:
Porcelain Tile flooring
Steel beam placement for the ASA Boom
Electrical work throughout the shop
Dust collection ducting through the attic with drop downs to major equipment
AC/HEAT ducting with dehumidifying drain outside. (2 1/2 ton AC/HEAT/Dehumidifier to be installed)

Doing all this in the time I have at home in Florida, and have been lining up the appropriate contractors with proposed scheduling through the summer.

Cheers,
Frank

Frank I don't know where you are purchasing the porcelain tile, but you need to check out Floor and Decor in Orlando or Jacksonville as they have some excellent tile at very reasonable prices.  You also might want to look into the Mapei poly grout.  Permanently sealed once it is down.  I worked part time at the store in Brandon, FL for 3 years after retiring and before my wife retired.

Peace in Nigeria.  Regards, Bill
