Todays mistake

I agree, I'm going to add thickness to the top.  I was considering just what you mentioned Mike.  The grain orientation will be different on the sides but if I leave the trim set back I think it'll be alright.  I have to "pay the bills" with work this weekend but I may get a chance to spend time on it.  I'll post a close up of the top when finished, may be a week or so.  Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.

was making a quick replacement drawer for the kitchen today. Even though I marked the waste, I still cut one the tails off and left the waste.. grumble grumble....

A habit I've developed over the years is to draw an X on the part i'm removing.  sometimes there's a lot of little Xs in rows just to make sure! lol

I do that too...

You might not have made the joint that you wanted, but that would sure make a heck of a profile picture ;)

I appreciate the advice on making the top "thicker"... I'm glad I did.  I would have posted a picture sooner but we just obtained the pulls.  Jrs, I may in fact use that mistake as my profile pic.

Great work!  I like what you did with the top and the way it all came together.  Very classic look.

Looks GREAT!  I'm glad you like the thicker top.  It looks more appropriate imo

Very nice work.  Like the subtle pulls, and the top detail.  Thank you for sharing.  Bill

BB - Very nice work.  Did you use a purchased plan for that or did you design it from scratch yourself?  Wife is pushing me for a new bedroom set, so I am starting the design process.

I had been making my DT's using my WoodRat.  When doing only one project at a time, it was taking up to much of my very limited time for setting up.  I finally decided to try a DT jig and bought a Keller. The guy @ the wood show told me it would make perfect joints with first setup.

I could not wait til i got home to try it. Voila, I made both sides of a corner for a serving tray i intended to make. The joint came ut perfect with no adjustment necessary. I proceeded to make the rest of the corners and started assembly. It all worked out fine except when i got to the last corner, the joint was somehow upside down.  I have the partially assembled piece somewhere in my shop.  I saved it as a reminder.  This past weekend, my Grandson and i started rearranging the shop.  He spotted the frame and asked what he should do with it as it looked strange to him.  Things were being moved every which way (meaning whichever corner you put it in will probably be wrong) and for now, i don't really know where it went.  Once I put everything into reasonable rode, that frame will show up.  It will be place back onto a prominent shelf as it has been for the past ten or so years. Glad to see others make the same mstooks.
