Tool Registration

Over the years I've purchased many Festool products.  The dealers (mostly Woodcraft) say they will register the tool(s).  Is there a way to see what was registered, when and by who?  I Wonder if I have 20+ user accounts somewhere!

Welcome to the FOG! [member=68269]Gastonrob[/member]

FUSA was working on 'improvements' to tool registrations as I recall, and it was taking forever..... they should chime in here and let you know, or be able to look things up on their end for you.

[member=68269]Gastonrob[/member] - Send me a message with your name, email address, or some other identifying information, and I'll have our Customer Service team find what they can for you.

They've been practicing this workaround since they announced their intention to create an online registration tool since...wait for it...July 2011.  So they're really good at the workaround.

Its got to be excruciating for them to develop a solution only to have Windows or MacOS change their operating system forcing them to start over.  My MacOS alone has changed from Snow Leopard to Lion to Mountain Lion to Mavericks to Yosemite to El Capitan to Sierra to High Sierra to the upcoming Mojave in that time period.  No company could reasonably be expected to develop software under such conditions.

Tired of seeing these kind of posts about registering Festool products -
And the changes, delays, excuses, lack of access, etc. -
I created a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file - One tab per brand -
Examples: Festool - Lie-Nielsen - Bessey - Machine Tools (Jointer, Planer, Band Saw, etc.) - “All Other”.
Column Examples: Brand - Tool Type - Model - Model Number - Serial Number - Purchase Date - Purchase Price, etc. (I kept the receipts.)
Once I had the format on the first spreadsheet - It was easy to copy the tab (duplicate the spreadsheet) - And just change the Brand.
One file copy’s on my laptop - One’s on my “cloud” drive - One’s on a thumb drive in my safe -
All with a digital copy of my Home Owner’s Insurance policy and its addendum for my shop/tools.
Tedious to do - Took some time with all the tools I’ve accumulated.
But... After the initial input’s done - Not hard to keep up adding additions.

Actually they did have online registration operational here in North America for several years.  That ended once Festool USA made some programming language changes and then some other internal IT changes.

Yes it has been some time coming back.

Yea, I think the last time I was able to register online was circa mid 2016.  [sad]

I do apologize for missing that rollout that did not...quite...work.  But...

I am confused! I have registered my own tools on Festool USA’s site. I just looked again and the link to register is there. Why can’t you just register each one yourself and see what happens. I would imagine that if the registration goes through you are golden and if it does not you will probably end up with more information than you had. ???

I believe that the issue for people is that previously you could check online to see what tools you had registered and when. That function is not currently available.

Peter

Festool Canada might use a different website, I was able to register all my Festool tools[8] from November 2017 to April 2018.

All I need is a hand shake with the database with a generic user/password with read-only access on the required table(s). Within a week  [big grin] I get you an app to query on customer tools status.

I always received confirmation by physical mail of any registration.

Over here dealers stopped registering tools for the customer as that was providing personal details to a 3rd party and no longer allowed under privacy laws. At least not without prior explicit permission.

I think the dealers registered about half of my new purchases.  The other problem is transferring or registering non-dealer sales.  I've got probably 20 Festool Tools and I think maybe 6 or 7 are registered. It's been awhile since I asked Tyler to get me a report.  Festool may have some of the best tool developers in the world but that distinction does not extend to their software developers.

Good idea. With a small inexpensive scanner or even using your phones' camera and one of the many apps available such as Office Lens you can create image or PDF copies of those receipts and attach them to the spreadsheet.
