Tool theft

I don't have any PHP experience, but I do spend far too much of my day with ASP.NET, C#, and MS SQL. If I can be of any assistance, I'd be delighted.

Is that why the United States has 6 times as much prisoners as the average of all other nations?

No, it's that we have six times as many screw-ups who would rather do something dishonest than work for a living.

Thats because Europe is to soft! Humans rights! We let every one go.

Well in the UK now you can basically get away with murder you just get few years and slap on the wrist. Should be life 4 a life!

I like the American system 3 minor strikes and your out!

This is a very misleading statistic and one which is happily thrown about in the current global anti-US climate. But it's actually crap.

1/3 of the "prisoners" in the US system are in JAIL (people usually awaiting trial), not PRISON. JAIL and PRISON are very different classifications in the US. The main reason the prison population is higher in the US is because of the harder line taken towards drugs. Once you include these factors, the US and European prison populations are not so far apart.

The average is also heavily skewed by the extremely low percentage in high-population countries such as India.

So that still makes it 4 times.....

Do you really think a 'bell curve' should be applied to this.

The preceding points still remain. Crime/theft goes up as the economy goes down.

Yep, I have read that if marijuana was made legal about 300,000(or 1 out of 6)people(mostly poor) would not be in prison under legalization. Many are not dealers or pushers, etc, so many moderate pot users are in prison using up funds instead of the money being used for other things, it's ridiculous. And if it were legal the dealers would not be in prison either, they would be out of work. One guy is serving 20 years for a 1/2 oz of pot, that is outrages when you consider people with 4 and even more DUI's have never done a day in prison. Plus, three strikes adds another 50,000 probably a lot more(24 states all have different laws so its hard to track) that are in prison that are not dangerous criminals.

Three strikes IS NOT a good thing, google it. Another man is in for life for stealing food for his family and never had never committed a violent crime or ever used any weapons or anything. Common sense must be used. Then I read a woman that killed her daughter by beating her to death with a belt in a violent rage only gets 20 years, what the heck is going on.

In the US jail is for people that have not been judged innocent or guilty (meaning that many are not criminals yet) and awaiting their day for trial.

Prison is for the people that have been judged already.

Not sure what the terms mean in other countries.

I saw this on page 31 of a recent Festool brochure in the Netherlands.

tools for Profit

Gratis diefstalverzekering

Roughly translated it means,

Tools for Profit
Free theft insurance

Of course you are very careful with your Festool machines, but
but it will happen that someone comrade job
just with you. The tools for Profit-club feel with you
and helps get you back to work - a new one
then buy for only ? 50, -.

Why can this idea not be extended to North America?

Maybe there's too high a percentage of theft in the US to make the program viable?  [smile]

If that was the case you would simply increase the deductible to $100 for example.

As an aside... I think that anyone who steals a persons means of earning a living should be consigned to an offshore island with no tools, preferably in a flippin cold and wet climate!

I don't think Frank would want oiks like them around his tools, let alone his beautiful retreat.  [big grin] I was thinking more of a windswept, desolate, place where even Ray Mears would get depressed.  ;D

Hi Wooden top sorry to hear your problems. What van do you have always interested to know for future reference. I always worry about mine even though I have most security features but you hear lots of stories now of scum ripping whole doors off vans  [eek] to get in.

At the job I was on today they breed South African boerboels they are dogs that apparently 2 of them could kill a lion  [eek] these things are massive would love to keep one of those in the van to give these scum a surprise.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply been away so no posts and as mentioned they stole my laptop.
The van is a Renault traffic 2003, there is a weakness on this van in that the rear door handle is held on with screws set in plastic and without going into detail for obviose reasons anyone who has this van should be looking at securing the rear doors imeidiatly.

thanks for the dog thing i've looked them up and my mollys similar size and look

Paul.

Nice one Tom!!! [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

Especially SE London near Kent??? [tongue] [tongue]

Ray Mears would be at a dead loss, he would be lucky not to have his tent stolen while foriging at tescos for supplies and his trusty knife pickpocketed at the checkout to be used to rob him when he got outside.

Hes got a new one now I dont know if they have fixed the problem in the newer model.

Bump. Anybody used the red laser app with the iPhone? That thing would be super cool for registering tools. Just scan the bar code, punch in a password or something, and the registry is updated. You can tell I'm a whizz-bang programmer, no?

Do you know if there is a similar app available for Android Phones?

There MUST be. Do you have an Ebay app? Ebay has red laser built in, it's the button to the right of the search window. Very handy for sorting junk around the house.  [big grin]
