I got a set of spring miter clamp about 6 months ago and i just don't know why i did not get it sooner.
I do a lot of prefinished crown/trim molding and i have to say that those clamps are a MUST!
I used to fight those joints, especialy when it is up to the ceilling. With prefinished you need to be as perfect as possible.
But ever since i got that set,it's been a joy. It's to the point that i almost don't need to nail the joints.I just apply some glue and those clamps puts a lots of pressure on the joint.Of course i still put a couple pins but i get perfect joints everytime.
Or could it be because of the Kapex? [laughing]
Any of you have those clamps? How do you use it?And how do you like it?

Also another tool that i wished that i got long ago is the Fein multimaster.I put that tool on the back burner for years!!!

How bad are the marks that are left by the points?

Yes - same thing I was thinking, they look a bit brutal on the timber they're holding!

I have allways wondered the samething seeing this exact set at woodcraft. It looks like it leaves really big holes/marks in the corners.

Peter,it does leave point marks.but they are not that bad.
I just use a little putty or a touch up wax stick.

Why don't you just use Mitre Bond or whatever it is called over there ?  Apply glue, hold for 10 seconds & solid.  No clamping & certainly no nailing !

I have used glue like that before, but maybe i just did not read the instruction or i just have bad luck but those glue just does not work for me.For some reason it doesn't hold or i can't hold the 2 pieces together right long enough for the glue to set.
I have also been going behind guys that has use this type of glue(so they said)and had to rework their crown molding joints. So after that experience i am not sold.

I get mixed results from solid wood cornice, oak is a no go.  The wrapped mdf cornice sticks like,,,, well, you know what it sticks like  [big grin]

I use to have some heavier-gauge miter clamps similar to those, but now I use the ones from Collins.  Very economical and lightweight.
Their holes are similar to an 18ga brad - I touch up with coloured wax.
