Tools in Action reviews the Carvex

I don't think these guys intend to be funny but I laugh every time I watch their videos.

I agree with everyone here when you all said it's a terrible review of the Carvex, but if you look at their other videos they're all terrible reviews. I'm 99% sure Dan works in IT (so he probably only uses just a small bag of hand tools)

How an you imply such a thing?  My entire (paid) career and was in IT and I found many of my fellow workers to by very knowledgeable woodworkers.

(p.s. I'm not upset by your statement, just curious as to why you would make it.)

I'm not talking about IT people not using tools at home in their spare time or not being good woodworkers. I'm just talking about how they don't need many tools at work. I imagine a multi-bit screwdriver, flashlight, pliers and cutters along with some cable ties is all you need to be in IT.

I was just trying to make a point that these two guys don't come across as tool aficionados. But, I don't claim to be one either. Let me end by saying that I'm not a wood worker and anything I've done in terms of woodworking is just makeshift and really shotty.

I'm just on this forum because I love tools and I really like Festool drills, they're top notch. I don't use a lot of power tools at work, just a power lug crimper, portaband saw, drill, test equipment, etc.

While watching holiday movies their review came to mind -

One mention of FOG;
Two guys atalking;
Threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee woodworking wetdreams.......

I pounded my head against the wall and think that I have erased those images now.  I hope.

Spent some time watching their other reviews / internet offerings and frankly have concerns about disclosures and tool safety shown.  If they actually show the tools in action in the videos.

Perhaps not the slickest review but, it was still effective enough to make me want to sell my Trion so i can buy a Carvex.

I thought it was interesting that some people watched that video wanting to purchase a carvex.  I had the opposite inclination (different strokes...). 

They said they were impressed numerous times, but none of their demos or the words they managed to string together really compelled me.  It was more like nails on a chalkboard.  I kept wondering why Shane of all people would link to this review??  Of course now it's clear we were subjects in his social science experiment.  [tongue]. Thank god because I'll be that much happier if I don't have to see another one of their reviews!

Aw, come on. I think you guys are a little too rough. They make it clear that they think Festool is the choice for woodworkers and even those who are starting out would be wise to choose Festool. Sure they're a little goofy, but they do a good job of talking to the average DIY guy. Kinda.  [unsure]

So...I am new to the site. I am a home owner that loves woodworking. I am not a contractor but do know my way around power tools and have done some volunteer work. My Dad is a retired shipyard inspector with some serious cabinetry skills. Because of that I am an aspiring woodworker and am learning as much as I can about general contractor work (I.e. Electrical, plumbing etc. etc. etc.). I watched Eric and Dan's video and got rid of my Bosch 1587AVS jig saw that I've had for six years (and loved by the way) and spent the cash on this awesome tool. I did this because of the review that Eric and Dan of Tools in Action did. After watching the video, I checked out Festool USA and the Festool YouTube channel and decided because I am so interested in woodworking and am taking classes, maybe the cash I was going to spend on the Makita 4351FCT barrel grip or the new Bosch JS572EB would be spent on a better quality tool that will last a life time.

So because I watched what I think was a pretty funny video done by a couple of pretty funny guys with a lot of experience in the contracting field, I bought the Carvex and am glad I did. All in all I think the video was just right for a DIY guy like me looking for an honest and informative intro to a powerful and well made tool. I really enjoy the site here but am and always will be a member at Tools in Action (username ChrisK1970) because of the very wide base of experience (like I said, I'm not a pro) that the members have. I would also add I just dropped 9 bones on the Rotex 90 and the Midi and several boxes of paper because of the videos they did on the Rotex and the Midi.

I'm glad that you discovered Festool and are happy with the tools  [smile] but I remain amazed  [jawdrop] that anyone would take those two guys seriously.

Tools in Action used to have a good host. They would have a variety of quality craftsman use the tools for a few weeks and then give their honest impressions of what they liked and didn't like. The host would ask cogent questions and maintain a respectful manner to the craftsman and the viewer. I have seen this new guy in a half dozen reviews and find him obnoxious, at best. This particular craftsman has been on for quite a for reviews. His technique and presence is, at best, sloppy.  Any review from these two guys, IMO,  is worthless.

On top of it, consequently, I take that review and do more research and bought additional tools in the line after my girlfriend bought my the TS55 REQ. So if people watch those reviews are they in fact idiots? I don't think so, I do my research. And I stand by my response. The TiA crew is awesome. They are not craftsman, they are tradesman that review tools and give their two cents worth. Based on their reviews I got a spark of interest and followed up by checking into the tools on Festool USA and made my purchases. I'm very happy with my purchases but those very expensive tools that I bought began with my watching those videos.
