Tools Stores in Tokyo

I will be in Tokyo in a few weeks.  Any suggestions on tool related stores in Tokyo?  We thinking of some new chisels, measuring gauges, etc.

Thanks.
Where in Tokyo will you be staying, having lived there for a while I may be able to make suggestions, certainly one of the TokyoHands shops is a reasonable start

A department store for everything done with hands from cutting sushi to sawing wood.

Looks great!

Royal Park Hotel, next to the  T-CAT station.

Thanks!

Tokyu Hands is more like a department store with a heavy emphasis on crafting. The tool selection for woodworkers is not very extensive, eg the planes (kanna) are mostly Kukiri brand (hope I spelled that right) that use a kind of exchangeable blade system (not like the traditional ones with an ura — thick blade). The choices in measuring tools and such is also limited. (Note that I visited only two TH stores.)

To buy pro level tools you need to find specialized stores that sell knives (strange thing, I know); these often have a selection of chisels, kanna's and saws that far exceed the ones in TH re quality (and price…).

If you find yourself in Kyoto, there are a few good places to shop according to the site of Suikoushya (a woodworking school in Kyoto):http://suikoushya.com/en/stores/

By accident I found Minamoto No Hisahide when I was in Kyoto last May. Bought a very nice kanna there. Mind you: the owner has almost no English (but is a very nice man; very pleasant to deal with once he sees you are an enthusiast).

Enjoy your stay in Japan! I did and plan to return next year. Best vacation ever.

T-CAT station.

You had me confused with that as Tokyo City Air Terminal isn't usually called a station and just called TCAT.

You will find that most Japanese prices are about ½ the imported tools prices

The Shibuya shop is the bigger Tokio shop though it's been a few years since I went there, as I lived near Ikibukuro and there is a smaller TH shop there.
You need the Hachikō exit at Shibuya, look for Inokashira Dori on the maps.

They do have a few of the cheaper planes like these

You may even find something in the semi professional range, I remember seeing one or two in around  ¥24,000 and up
They have the usual markings tools and gages and some consumer grade chisels etc

Kapabashi is also a good place to find specialist knife suppliers who may have some planes though don't be surprised at the price. I saw one noodle knife that was ¥480,000 yes $4,250.00 for one knife
The best one is Union Commercehttp://www.unioncommerce.co.jp/company/index.html
though the website is not good
