Am I the only one that has this issue with Festool Sandpaper?

Never had these issues with my porter cable sander and Nortonpaper.

This has nothing to do with a particular brand, this happens with all brands and of tools and all kinds of sandpaper. It is just normal wear and tear. There is a lot of force working on that little piece of paper. Especially when you sand against or over edges.

I do find it happens a lot faster with Granat sandpaper though, the blue ones in the picture. The back layer of Granat is just too thin. Festool should make that stronger, it is a bit below standards for such expensive but otherwise good paper.

I completely agree.  I know a lot of people rave about Granat but I'm not so thrilled.  I'm pretty sure the thin backing paper is a purposeful point of failure.

I switched to klinspor sanding disc.  It works just as good as festool sandind disc.  Plus its 30-40 cents a disc compared to festool disc that are around 80-100 cents a disc.

Seems to happen with Granat the most, and definitely on the RO90 in rotex mode.  I hit the corners more due to the speed, and it just tears instantly.

I dont think there is an alternative brand though for RO90 is there?

I might just need to buy sapphire for the RO90 for rotex mode, and use brillant for the rest of the sanding.

Unfortunately there is no Saphir for the Rotex mode. Why, is beyond me. Saphir is very useful for me with the Rotex.

OMG that makes no sense.  Crap.. now i dont know what to do for rotex.  Not a fan of Rubin... It goes dull for me in about 10 seconds for me.

One thing I noticed is Festool Sandpaper fits the pad exact to the millimeter.  With my old sander the sandpaper was always bigger around the pad by 2mm.  Im not sure if that helped or not.

I think ill try Brilliant on the RO 90, it seems to hold up okay on my rts 400.

I'm still undecided on my ets150.  Rubin dulls just too fast, granted i was sanding hard maple and getting nowhere. Granat tears just tooo easy for me, I dont have time to be prissy with it. That leaves Brilliant, or try Rhyno, Klingspor, or Abranet w/ pad protector

Ah I wondered about this too .

I really like Rubin for bare wood .and was sanding some painted stuff last week and the Titan was really good

I was a big fan of granat but you could be right

I have been using Mirka's Abranet, you have to cut it yourself, but the stuff lasts. Having said that I also use Brilliant 2 on my RO 90 and have had good luck, you may want to try using the guard. B
