Touch up paint for Festool?

So I've managed to chip the paint off of my Kapex miter saw when packing it back into the box.

FYI the Festool video instructions for packing the saw have a mistake where it says to lock the back fences to where it's flush with the sides. When you do this and you lower the saw head, it will rub against the right fence and now I have no paint anymore at that location.

I don't want to keep the metal bare because of the potential for rust and since the saw is brand new I'm a little annoyed. I'm looking for a way to touch up the tool in this area with the same color. Does Festool sell a touch up kit for this gray paint? It looks like a light metal gray powder coating.

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

I am sure you will get some help with your paint problem.  Curious about the box?  Is it a transport box that you built?

it won't be the first chip.  mine has stain on it, paint, scratches and plenty of paint chips and nicks.

Also, I am pretty sure the aluminum/magnesium alloy the base and stuff is made out of, wont rust.

My guess is that it is on the underside of the motor housing right below the arbor -- the metal there can rub on the fence when it is flush with the sides and the head turned.  I think it is the box the Kapex came in that he is referring too.  I would be cool if you could get touch-up paint, although I kind of agree with Darcy -- they are tools and over time they end up getting all kinds of dings and scuffs...at least mine do anyway.  I think that they add character and serve as identifying marks  [tongue]!

Mine is now 6 years old and has a fair amount of chips, they don't rust as mentioned above. But if you want to do touch ups of the gray parts then i found that duplicolor light gray is a near perfect match

All paint on Festool tools is powder coated.

Festool doesn't sell a touch up kit but your local paint store does.

The name of the ligth grey colour is RAL 7035 and any good paintstore should have that colour in its mixing computer.

The Kapex' base is made from a magnesium alloy so most paints won't stick for long unless you apply a metal primer first.

Sorry to hear that you chipped the paint. I'm pretty sure there isn't touch up paint available. At least there wasn't any the last time I checked.

Like Darcy mentioned, it's magnesium alloy, so it doesn't rust.

Does anyone know what the proper sheen is to match the light gray on the Kapex?
Thanks, Jon
