track saw clamps that don't stick out the bottom

That might just be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Need to substitute a t-nut type washer underneath so it will slide into the bottom track of the rail.  Hope the pics are clear enough.

These would be good to anchor the clamp in the rail slot but need to know the screw size. This example is 6mm. Also need to change head type.

The Rapid clamp trigger end also swivels, so it is more compact on the bottom:

I didn not know the handle rotated! I use 2" foam under my cuts and that handle would fit perfect hanging over the ends! Ordering one now! Thanks for posting those pics!

I have two (the smaller size) from Lowe's. They are the most space-saving bench tops for assembly, cutting (including circle-cutting), nailing, layout etc., etc. Almost forgot the finishing table, too. When folded into the original bag, it takes up 10" x 10" space in a corner. Highly recommended if you have shop space issues for a permanent assembly table.

oh lowes carries these? you would rather have two smaller ones put together to cut 4x8 ply than the larger one?

thank you, where can i get a t nut and what size?

edit, just looked at the new link for this tool and it looks like they have a t track fitting version, is this the right size?http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?cat=1,41637&p=64685

Have you tried cutting your plywood without clamping the track, especially on the floor I can't see that track moving anywhere. I tend to only use clamps if the material I'm cutting is slippery.

Since I first saw this my brain has been using every spare clock tick to figure out a way to do this with the Festool tracks. I've got some ideas brewing, hopefully the light bulb will come on soon. :)

Edit 6/04/17: Looks like what I was thinking Peter had the same idea a few years ago, just came across his post in the thread referenced above this morning.

You can also make a DIY vaccuum clamp that hooks up to the rail similar to the gecko dosh. That way you can get a bit of the functionality of a mafell aero guiderail.
In the threads about the CT wings there are a few examples of how to build something like that using a piece of ply and some self adhesive foam tape as a gasket.

I was digging up the link for the CT wings thread, and I saw they actually came up with a rail clamp at the time:

from This thread

You could use it with two seperate hoses from the vac, or if you would make a Y-splitter at the clamp like on the aerofix, you need to be carefull that the sawdust doesn't drop into the clamp (place the Y or T further upstream).

PS Is it just me, or do none of those aerofix demonstration/review videos show how long it takes untill you can remove the rail after the cut?

You're not pulling 30 inches of mercury with the thing. Just peel up a corner and the suction is broken. Setting it back down in the correct place with the vacuum running is the real problem.

LINK yea that is something to consider, perhaps with something like on the other end: LINK

oh interesting, wonder if it gets nice and tight like the festool ones i bought. i was thinking if i had the low profile on one side i could just hang the gun trigger thing off the end of the foam for clearance but might be worth trying that little guy too

So was I, so I ordered the festool "gun" one. Might try the Rockler one too. If it goes on sale for cheaper.

Seems to me that you're making this hard work for yourself.

For at least 90% of my cuts with the guiderail I don't even use the clamps anyway.
Just use the natural non slip of the rails.

Plus I have it up on sawstools with two eight foot bits of studding timber running across from one stool to another and then maybe four bits of timber about a metre long running scross those two long timbers.
That means that even if I totally forget to set my depth it still won't damage the floor or my sawstools, plus I can fit my extractor (CTM26) underneath it all so it takes up less space and the odd cut that I need to finish off with a handsaw is up at the right height.
Oh and as you get older you start to appreciate not having to scrat about on the floor like a hungry chicken.

Diddo on that. I cut mine same way (foam on the floor) and I don't even clamp it. "Magic" strips holds fine. I also just use my free hand to press the track down for extra grip.

I got the rockler back one to go along with the festool gun and it's making my current workflow work just how I need it to. I can't tighten it as right as festool tho (ends up slipping ) but so far so good
