I was in Woodcraft the other day and noticed the circle cutting unit designed for the 1010 was now labeled for the 1400.  When did this happen as I thought the only way to cut circles with the 1400 is with the MFS unit. This would be great!

Interesting, I just tried to find the trammel unit for the 1400 on Festool's website and it doesn't show up...only shows up for the 1010 like you said. I know that I've seen the trammel unit listed in my paper catalog at home for the 1400...

Thought I'd way in on this topic... The trammel unit (483 922) is designed to work only with the OF 1010.  I verified that it was listed this way in our '07, '08/09, and current ('09) catalogs.  It's also listed this way on our website.

I can tell you my three year old trammel unit only fits the OF1010 and not the OF1400. Well, it does fit the 1400 but it doesn't tighten down. You might be able to slide in a shim to tighten it.

I understand that Shane but label on the plastic tube specifically said 0F1400 on it as well as the 1010.  Maybe it was a misprint?  If I can make out  there, I'll take an iphone picture and post it.

Howard, was the label something that the Woodcraft store put on there?  Regardless, the size of the rods on the trammel unit are wrong for it to work with the 1400.  I'll try to remember to pull one from inventory on Monday and check the packaging.

That is entirely possible.  It was actually the Rockler store.  My mistake.  You would think they would know better but there I go, thinking again!  :o

I suspect just an honest mistake on the part of the store.  The Rockler website shows it as being only for the 1010.  Howard, if you want to PM me your location, I'll get our regional sales manager to stop by and check it out.  Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Brice, I haven't read much about the trammel unit.  Since you've had it for awhile would you weigh in?

Sure Russell. I like it because it's so easy to use. It mounts in on the holes in the base for the rods that attach the rail attachment/edge guide. You just measure the distance between the point and your bit to set the radius. Its fairly inexpensive for a Festool item. Radii of 6"-30" or so. I did a short review on my site, you can check it out here.

Thanks Brice.  I currently have a piece of plywood that I screw the 1400 to.  I may have to pick this up for the 1010.
