trapezoidal doors

I have been thinking about a piece of furniture I saw recently where the sides of the piece were angled in about 3-5 degrees off 90.  The doors were similarly trapezoidal.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how the hinges were mounted on the doors to allow them to open smoothly and in a co-planar path with the floor.  is there a recognized/accepted technique for this?

I would imagine that the hinges are offset in some way so the hinge pins are in-line, probably custom jobs or the hinges are fake and the doors ride on pivots like some secret doors.

You might be right about the pivots, that would make the most sense to me.

Depending on how wide the base of the triangle is, you might be able to use a Blum corner cabinet hinge for these doors.  The hinge pivots out as it swings, and might provide the clearance for wider door edge.

Wouldn't the pivot point of each hinge have to be in the same plane vertically and perpendicular to the floor ?

Assuming the doors are inset there basically a pivot hinge installed on the top and bottom of the in line with each other 90 degree's to the top or bottom of the door. Depending on witch way you intend to swing it one hinge will be at the short point of the door the other will be offset to make it inline with the other so the door pivots on that point. If the door was overlay I have no idea. If you Google pivot hinge it might make it a little clearer.
