Trimming the rail splinter guard (first time use)

I trimmed the splinter guard and almost all of it was no problem. Each end presented a problem because you can only trim it until the rail adjustment knobs reach the end of the rail (since the track won't stay tight on the rail after that). What do you do about the two ends? This doesn't matter for use on the MFT3 table. However, if join two rails together, the ends of the rail won't be trimmed properly.
 
my first rail was like that. when i got another 2 rails i joined them and cut the uncut ends on the first cut . each time i joined them diferently until they were all cut
 
Cut as much as you can with the saw, and then use a straight edge and a box cutter to trim the remainder. If you can, plunge the saw on full depth.
