Trion wear plate

My Trion jig saw gets used for just about everything.  It is my best option for cutting metals, as well as contours on wood.  I recently noticed that the sole plate is pretty scarred up and has a lot of metal particles embedded in it. I don't want to scar up my wood projects with the metal chips.

I am going to order another sole plate, which I will use strictly for woodworking and use the old one when cutting metal. 

Has Festool considered a harder material (phenolic, perhaps) for the sole plate?  Am I being particularly rough with my saw, or is this common?  It doesn't seem that anyone considers it common, because I don't find the sole plate on the internet sites that sell accessories.

Jeff, I don't think that the sole plate for the Trion is a commonly replaced item based on my experience.  You can order spare parts, such as this item, directly from our service department.  Regarding the material used in the base, I will pass the suggest/question on to our Product Management team.

I'm actually in about the same situation as you. I cut a fair amount of light gauge metal. The base plate is scarred up a bit and slightly rough. Before cutting metal regularly with me Trion it never used to leave marks on wood. I've gone to putting a layer of painters blue tape on the base plate when I cut wood. I have to replace the tape from time to time but otherwise it's ok. I think the fine metal shavings are the issue.

I have purchased sheets of a slick coated adhesive that is designed to go on the plates of jig saws. I do not remember the name of the product but I got it at Woodcraft. It creates a protective barrier and is quite slippery. You might do a search of their website. I think it might be just what you are looking for and the price was quite reasonable. Certainly cheaper thn a new plate.
