ugh, truck broken into tonight stole almost everything...upside, they didn't steal any of the festools.
Funny, like I heard someone else say in the forums...I don't think they know wtf it is.
sigh, I hate thieves

That's totally sad, and maddening...

I had my house cleaned out during a 2-week business trip a few years ago.

I didn't even have a phone to call the Police and this was before cell phones were smaller than a bread box. It is a horrible feeling but in the end, you will realize that it is just stuff and they were likely just punks.

My condolences,

Tom

I feel for ya. I had my shed broken in to this last January. They took a ton of power tools, nail guns and lawn gear.  Took and month to replace every thing. Luckily I have a replacement insurance policy. So I go a bunch of NEW tools.

but like you none of the Festool stuff was taken, Mine was locked in the garage.

I work for a company that makes GPS chips.  Often thought of taking some of our defunct trackers and pop them inside some power tool boxes.  Sure, can't track all the tools, but if they took just one with a tracker... Curiously, the boxes for the trackers look a lot like those stud finders at the big box  [tongue]

Are they small enough to put in the tools themselves? That would be cool, with a small power cell inside too. Automatically charges as you use the tool...

So it's your fault that those damn things send people around in a circle and tell me to make the turn 3 feet after I passed it!  [mad]

I'm onto you, Paul-Marcel.  [wink]

I bet that you're tracking me tracking you.  Well, I'll  just go in a circle then or maybe throw in a couple of zig zags.  [big grin]

So which vendor wants all my money? Planning on just going Amazon, as I have a promotional prime membership...

Well, looks like I'll be picking up a few festool sanders to boot too. You can expect an email soon Bob :/

I'm thinking of branding all my tools from now on [unsure]. Not that that will do all that much

Personally, I would not brand my power tools, as this would affect the resale value on ebay.
I don't spray or engrave my tools for this reason.

You would be surprised what people will pay for good quality second hand Festools on ebay.

Very sorry to hear about anyone getting their tools stolen.
The thieves obviously do not care that we work hard to buy these possession's.
You are very lucky they did not take your Festools!

Justin.

Yeah, I used to think that too...but I've noticed I never sell my tools. I end up just holding onto them as backups

When i got my van and looked at the price of all the tools in it i thought i better add some decent security.. I fitted a steel bulkhead, bolted a van-vault to the floor, added expensive locks on side and back doors, fitted another alarm and immobiliser (inc a sensor incase it gets banged or rocked) and also fitted a text alert to the alarm system.
I also don't have any sign writing on the van to advertise i have tools in there.. ( i was thinking of adding a sign saying toxic waste and asbestos removal  [big grin] ) That might put the thieving t***s off.....

John..

It would be interesting to know how many contractors here carry that type of insurance.  When I started out the premiums over the span of five years would pay for the tools.  That coverage would have been more expensive than my gl policy.  I haven't checked lately with my carrier, but I only carry a token amunt that is automatically included in my gl policy.

I have a $10,000 tools recovery on my policy. And it did not cost that much more.

I've had my trucks broken into so many times over the years I lost count a long time ago. Looked into a policy and it cost about the same as replacing the tools. Tool replacement from loss averaged about $2000 annually when I was on jobsites full time. No idea what a policy would cost now. Since I spend very little time on urban jobsites these days it isn't a big issue anymore for me. I don't leave squat in my truck though either. Load and unload religiously.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I know the feeling all too well.
