TS 55 and MFT/3 or CT 22 package?

Thanks for all the input!  I wound up ordering a TS 55 with the CT 22, and some accessories from Bob Marino today.

What convinced me to hold off on the MFT/3 for now was that based on the suggestions here, I think I can get by with either my workbench or making a cut table of some sort, and I already have sawhorses that I can use for the base of such a thing.  Also, I talked with Bob a bit today before making my purchase, and he did not really try to sell me on the MFT/3 even though I think I seemed to be interested in it.  To me, that says something about how (non) critical the MFT/3 is to have, and a lot about Bob, who probably could have told me instead that I really really really needed an MFT/3 and I would have just gone for it.

Thanks, everyone!

Well enjoy.

I don't think the mft/3 is not critical (it is a great work table) but, for just breaking down full sheets of ply it has a hard time with that.

You can use the ct with all the tools anyways.

Hi,

Your needs sounds similar to mine. I use my TS55 (with a CT22) on my workbench. I clamp the guide rail to the edge of my workbench and saw along the the short end of it. I do not have an MFT/3 nor do I miss having one. The sides of my workbench are 5 inches deep, so I use the 12 inch screw clamps.

I would definitely get the dust extractor instead of the MFT/3 as it can be used with all the Festools. It will also improve tool performance and minimize clean-up. You can use the tools without the MFT but it is hard to get the most out of the tools without good dust extraction.

Richard.

Of course you don't miss the MFT -- how could you if you have never owned one?  I would think it a safe bet that most all MFT owners would certainly miss theirs.  I know I would.  No disrespect to Richard, but the MFT is definitely a central part of the Festool system and only after owning one can you fully understand its value.  If you are buying a TS55 I highly recommend getting the MFT too.

Corwin, you were right after all. I am going to get an MFT next week. Too many setup hassles with the TS55 and my workbench, added to which it will make clamping pieces for routing and sanding that much easier.

I tried to kid myself for six months but the green monster got me in the end.

Richard.

Hey Richard,  I hope you enjoy your new MFT.  And, I hope your, uh, end recovers.    [blink]

... and I'm sure my commission from Festool is "in the mail."     [tongue]
