Ts 55 Bad moter smell :-(

Update
After contacting N&B tools they have advised I carry on using the tool. It is their belief that the bad smell may be normal. I gave the tool some light use last week and it ran without issue. I really need to give it some hard use but my pending work will not provide it. In the mean time I will be monitoring the saw. I have to say it is a joy to use, my old dewalt was first class but this saw is so much smoother and the cuts are cleaner.

I am happy with the response and will do as they ask, I hope the saw will be ok but as it is covered by a comprehensive warranty i am not unduly worried. Thanks for all the comments and concerns.

That's good to know Ian, with any luck you won't need to use the 3 year warranty  [smile]

My 4 1/2 yr old ts55 on sat  nov 1 2014 started to smell and eventually  I had smoke coming from the motor and burned up. I called festool on Monday and they told me send it in for an estimate. When  I told them that owners manual indicates has a built in temperature cut out he said not really. I'm pissed. My saw sees minimal use. The kapex I bought on Friday and still in box I'm thinking of returning

George, I'm not sure who you spoke with, but the TS 55 does have thermal overload protection. That keeps the saw from getting too hot and overheating if you are pushing it through the cut, for instance. It does not prevent an electrical or motor failure from potentially happening. Maybe there was a miscommunication. But, I'm sorry to hear about the failure on your saw.
