So I have an 8 year old TS 55. Using the universal blade. I need to joint 2" cherry. Will it work? Thanks.

The 55 has a 55mm depth of cut, less the blade (around 5mm) leave you about 50mm.  2 inches is 50.8mm, so the short answer, no.

If however, you are willing to cut part way through the board, then flip and cut the rest of the way... YES

However, for jointing this may not be a perfect setup.  You could cut as far as you can on one side, then flip and cut from the other side, leaving a little nib behind.  Then hand plane the nib off.

Just a thought,

Ken

Ken, the job is in south Jersey, if I was passing you I'd grab a 75. Small job though. Humidified guitar cabinet. Thanks for the help.

Might just have it milled to a shy 2"s.

When and where is it?

I might be able to deliver it to you...

I will send you a private message.

If the cherry is 8/4 the 55 will work just fine. I rip 8/4 white oak with mine all the time.
