TS 55R angle problems

Hi I'm having an issue with the angle scale on my TS 55R saw. It's 110v.

I have it in twice for repair and it's still not solved for me.

The problem I am having is that when is set the saw to 0 degrees it reads almost -1 degrees and when I set it to 45 degrees it reads at least 46 degrees. Obviously this is incorrect and I shouldn't have to manually hold the saw to either 0
Degrees or 45 degrees and that the saw should automatically go to both of those presets.

I have just received the saw back for a second time from repair and I sent pics to festool the second time I sent it in and they still haven't solved the issue for me. The second time they sent it back they included a black and white picture to tell me to read the angles from the side of the saw and not the top of the saw.

I have included a pic where I took it side on after the second repair and it still doesn't read 0degrees unless I manually hold the saw to 0degress. I'm at a loss as to what to do at this stage.  [sad]

I must admit I'm not too impressed with the accuracy of the gauges on the ts55r compared to my old ts55.

Have you checked the actual angle of the cut ? That's the important thing. I've not beveled anything yet with it so haven't had a chance to check it.

If you can set it to the 0 stop make a cut and check it's square. Then drop it to the 45 stop and do another and check if the cut actually is 45.

The gauges are just the same as yours though and the depth gauge is similar depending on what angle you look at it ,it will show a difference.

stick something about a mm thick on  the casting above the scale then it will read 0deg [wink]

Joiner1970 for the money we paid for it it's crap that they can't fix it. They have had mine twice to fix it and both times it hasn't been any better then before I sent it in  [sad]

I just want it to read correctly considering how much I paid for it.

Yeah I know what you're saying but if it does cut at 45 then it's not worth worrying about. I posted about mine awhile back.

the scale should tell you what the angle is.

have you read rick cristophersons guide on the ts55r . i havent but it might help.

if they wont fix it then return it

Iv had the saw since last December Alan so I'm afraid I can't return it. Iv had a loaner saw from festool while mine was getting repaired and it's the same as mine  [crying]

surly this would be a warrenty issue. .
you have 1 year with any electrical product to return it for not working properly. yours isnt working properly

I just had a look at ricks manual and there is nothing about calibrating the angle. According to the service department going by the black and white picture they put in with the saw there is nothing wrong with it.  [crying] they reckon the angle needs to be read horizontally and even then my 0 degrees isn't right.

I understand what your saying joiner1970 but I spent almost €600 on the saw for something that I should hav to either add or subtract to get the correct angle.  I'm not flush with cash so do save up to buys festools and this is very disappointing after sending it into the service department twice

Don't worry mate I'm in the same boat ,i just think as it does the job don't worry.

It's like one of my bessy 1m clamps is bowed , I was going to take it back but thought it doesn't really matter , it still works fine. Some things in life just ain't worth worrying about. I'm learning that with age

Lol that's true but I still want something as simple as the angle to read correctly. It's like buying a protractor to set the angle on your sliding bevel and it doesn't read correctly at all.

No way you should have to come up with a patch for your saw yourself. I would keep sending it back to Festool until they fix it properly or give you a new one when they get tired of your persistence. It's under warranty and you are well within your rights to demand an accurate saw.

You can't do good work without accurate tools.

That's my thought as well RL. Why should I have to compensate for something that should be correct? Ill ring festool again tomorrow and see what they say

I'm glad you guys are talking about this. Its a major problem for me too. I've been doing general carpentry with the saw since i got it so not knowing if the saw is a 1,0, or -1 hasn't been an issue but I certainly have no idea what is going on with the bevel. Sometimes I let it stop where it wants and sometimes I set it at "0" according to the scale, those are 2 very different and distinct places though.

I really want my old ts55 back. I actually emailed the guy that bought it on craigslist, he wouldn't sell it back to me  [sad]

Just compared both my TS55eq with my TS55REQ and indeed the bevel scales suck on the newer saw.  O degree's read as -1, 45 reads as about 46.  The EQ saw has much better scales for reference.

Good luck trying to set an accurate angle with the newer saw without some sort of gauge held there to confirm.

Kind of makes me up in the air again about what to do with the REQ saw, haven't sent it in for repair or exchange yet... might just keep the older saw.

I think the problem is that at 1 end of the scale it -1 and +1 at the other end. It not like you can just remember to +1 to what you want. As for reading the scale horizontally, what abot setting it to 45 degree?
