TS 55R (Updated TS55)

From a couple of responders, it seems Mafell service leaves a bit to be desired.  I don't care how good a machine is, if those who "stand" behind it give poor service, I am not interested.
For my daytime biz, if John (My equipment seller, repairer and guru) don't sell it, I don't buy it.  His service is that great. I just do not go anywhere else.  With Festool, I seem to know quite a few reliable (personal relationships as well as reported by others) dealers who are also known as reliable with followup service.  I don't shop around.

I pale into insignificance in his shadow.

Tinker, this not a case of shopping around or just buying from someone with the best service. You may not  realise the service we get over here from Festool Uk is [censored] [censored]

Its a case of this long awaited "new saw" is a none event [smile]

Not to sing Festool UK (TTS) praises too much but they fixed my OF1400 router for free when it was out of warranty.  New armature, bearings, labor etc.  They didn't need to do that.  I know a few here has had bad service from them but I can only comment on my service.  Really happy with them so far  [thumbs up]

I have no affiliation with them.

Also what is the cost difference between the mafell and festools saws ???
The Mafell is dearer but it is not much dearer and it is a quality item,

The MT55cc is $300 more expensive than a TS55 here in the states, I would considered 60% of the tool's cost to be a significant difference.

Yes its true but it comes with a larger guide rail parallel guide and two blades

£499.95 Mafell MT55 1.6m rail

£470.40    Festool  TS55  1.4m rail

Only £29.55   more!  Thats nothing!

Thats only a 5.9% increase here in the UK

As you are quoting me please realise I do not live in the states and unlike festool mafell is probably not subsidised in the states by buyers thoughout europe

I assumed the price differences were comparable.

What is the reason more people don't own the Mafell then?  For that price difference, I would have sprung for one.  $300 - not as likely

It's not just Europe that's fodder to The US Festool price model - the everywhere else on the planet.

Well only recently more and more people are buying the TS55   even now a lot of tradesmen still dont kno about festool  let alone know about Mafell!    I found out about Festool before I did Mafell and already owned a TS55 then.

If Mafell made them self know to the public they will get more sales!    My mate whos the first person I converted to Mafell instead of festool! He was thinking twice just because he had used mine and liked it and wanted to buy the same just cus he knew what it was like and was happy with what it could do and Mafell was unknown to him making it less appealing to him.  Hes had Mafel MT55 for a few weeks or more now and told me he likes it!

I think (I do not know)that mafell de. have nothing to do with the marketing here in the Uk they do need to raise their profile(being overly polite) as I said earlier.

How many festool staff around the world are reading this thread? hi guys and girls [wink]

Lol well, they should. I agree with others that releasing this new TS 55 R after Mafell's MT 55 is a mistake. Festool put the bar high with their original rail saws, now Mafell put the bar higher, and Festool should respond by putting the bar even higher.  Festool is lucky Mafell is so incredibly unknown to the public. But that might change.

come on festool raise the bar . or at least meet it. there are cheap knock offs with better features.

I can see the sales brochure now ...

The new Festool TS55R Track Saw

... Almost as good as a Mafell
... Most of the features of cheap saws
... Has an "R" in the name
... Umm ... Green ... Umm

The marketing department will be thrilled! Though I bet it was the marketing department that wanted to "launch the R" - if I was in the engineering department I'd be embarrassed to call it any more than a running upgrade.
