TS 75 as table saw in CMS.

Hi Guys(and any Gals)
I have a TS 75 as my track saw but was thinking of dropping it into a cms module that attaches to a MFT and getting a 55 for my track saw.
How will the 75 in this setup compare to a dedicated tablesaw? I battle to find info on how wide a rip will be possible, how easy is blade height adjustment etc.?
Anybody got this setup?

I have the base unit and ts75.There is 16cm on the right of the blade and 23cm [I think] on the left with the base unit but this can be increased with the extensions and sliding table.I think the VL which attaches to the mft may be a bit bigger.

As for height adjustment it's pretty easy and you can do it with one hand but it's not very accurate as you're just lifting the saw with a lever.

Comparing it to a tablesaw  depends on the tablesaw. Compare it to a portable tablesaw and it would probably be superior to most if not all.Perhaps with the exceptions of the Festool precisio and Mafell erika.

Thanks a lot Nigel. Currently I am using a Triton workcentre but not very happy with the results and accuracy. I am not in the portable market so all my machines are garage bound but I am  a huge Festool sl3t  ;) I saw quite a few threads where people are mounting incra and wixey aftermarket fences and gauges to make it more accurate, as well as the very expensive festool fence. I assume with this fence the cutting width is increased since it is using the mft as part of the saw top?

You're welcome oradba69,

Yes ,I believe you are correct that the fence slides on the  mft. There are some guys on here who have the VL version that fits the mft but they seem to be unusually quiet?

I don't think you would have any problems with accuracy on the additional rip fence.

You must get the correct rip fence if you get the VL as it is longer than the base model.

First of all if you don't need the mobility, don't go for Festool.  [crying]

Sorry for the late reply, had to register first  ;D

I have both the MFT/3 and the CMS. I didn't check the 16 & 23cm Nigel is talking about, I'm sure he's right. After all he's also right about the extensions and sliding table. First I bought the MFT (after festool increased the height and corrected the angled ruler to my likings) then the CMS (with sliding table, extra sidetable and rip fence). They were both on my wishlist for over a decade.

Let me try to give you my impression of the combinations. If you say accuracy, I say repeatability. From experience I know it's quite easy to set the TS75/PS300/OF1400 up to 1mm or 0.5mm of the required dimension. Higher accuracy, let's say up to 0.1mm, is possible but require some back and forth adjustments. Since my stock is standing in my garage it's not that stable in dimension to go below the 0.5mm accuracy. However repeatability is great. That's why I bought Festool. The same story goes for the sawdepth setting. I'm pretty sure a dedicated table saw is easier adjusted but look at the price tag and mobility.

In cases you wonder why I have both the MFT and the CMS, examine the height. :-) I use my MFT as an outfeed table or my CMS as a side table. Since they are easily moved around, you can do a lot...

I was pondering this too... I was thinking of buying a TS75 and leaving it undermounted in my CMS. But, in the end, I thought about how many times I need that extra depth... Not that much. So, I went for the TS55 and put it in my CMS module for the TS55 (I already had) and all is fine. One thing I did get was the newer 'panther' blade. The new one is 2.2 kerf as opposed to the old one 2.6 and has 12 rather than 14 teeth. It cuts (for a rip blade) really clean. I've been trimming cedar for a clad shed - not too much difference from the posh blades. Just turned the speed on the cut down.

So, I went for the TS55 undermount rather than the TS75

[welcome]  Bainiet,

It's true enough that with the cms you are paying for the excellent portability.

oradba69 already has a ts 75 and the mft? so that seems to be why he's thinking of the cms vl unit?

Paul,

I've been thinking of getting a panther for the cms.I'm put of a bit because it's a rip blade but maybe you can crosscut a bit with it?

Nigel,

I've used the normal blade for ripping on my CMS - it takes ages... Using the newer (2.2 Kerf 12 teeth) it goes through MDF/Cedar ect like butter. I've not been cross cutting as I've always used my chop saw for that - not for any other reason than, that's the way I work. It does speed work up no end. However, I am doing this for building houses, cladding houses ect.

Paul,

Reason I ask is I like to leave the chopsaw at home if I can . Usually I can do most crosscuts on the cms butI'm definitely going to get one get one and try it out.

Cheers.

Ah...

Well, I'd suggest just dropping the rip blade out and putting a normal blade in if it's not good enough for you 2 min job !

But the rip blade does what it says on the tin... And quick !

Well.... I find I have to take the saw out of the module to change the blade - too slow.....

Mmm I can take my blade out without removing it from the CMS. Now, if you've got to remove it, yes I can see that would be a pain.

Oradba69,

I can't see it being to hard either. And much cheaper than buying a CMS module. Just buy a second MFT table top and swap out if needed ! Or make your own...

sorry I'm missing why you would say don't go with Festool if you don't want portability ? all I'm hearing from your post is positivity? elaborate please
