TS55 F coming to N. America

Not the same. The F maintains the riving knife whereas the K (cordless) has anti kickback tech integrated and no riving knife. I can't understand why the corded is $100 more than the cordless without batteries. I would think the cordless would cost more to produce.

This is interesting. I would also expect corded version to have anti-kickback function since it's newer upgrade from R.

That's always been the way the prices broke down between the TS and TSC, though (same with the HK and HKC).  The Cordless is more expensive than the corded if you get the set that includes the batteries and charger.

I literally just took delivery today of a TS 55 REQ...
I even called festol yesterday about the REQ being out of stock and on backorder everywhere. No mention of a new model being available soon. They simply told me it's on a 16-26 week backorder.
Had I known the FEQ was coming out I would have waited and preordered that one.
Not the happiest camper right now...

Festool has a 30-day "no questions asked" return policy in the US.

Even if you need to use the saw, you can do so within the next 29 days and then return it.  Then get the FEQ after that.

Just remember that after the March 25th delivery date there is a caveat.  Subject to Change

I preordered a Pro 5 for December shipping…it arrived in March.

I preordered an ETS EC 125 for September shipping…it arrived in October.

Just saying, if you definitely need a saw for a particular time weigh your options.  [smile]

Return shipping will be on my dime, correct?

Depends on where you purchased it.  Only your dealer can answer that question.
I'm just gonna stick with the REQ for now. If I really end up wanting/needing the features the thinner blades bring to the table, I'll just sell my REQ and upgrade later on. The new blades/riving knife seem to be the only change.

I think I would get the new one in your shoes. You'll be money ahead if you do it now considering you will probably invest in different blades for your current req  that won't be compatible with the F. The thinner blade has many benefits. And the resale value on the REQ is going to drop with a new model out.

Not possible, the anti kickback tech needs a 3 phase motor (ie brushless) to work. The corded version would require an update to a brushless motor for that to work.

Thanks, I've decided I'm going to return the REQ and get the FEQ instead. The retailer I got my saw from has free return shipping, so I'm literally zero out of pocket to get the FEQ instead.

The new saw says it's faster because of the thin kerf blade.  Can I just put these new thin blades on my existing older TS 55 and have it faster?  The new blades will work right?  It seems weird to advertise a new saw that cuts faster but really they're just advertising a new line of thinner blades that will fit any saw.
Unless the riving knife is thin to match the blade kerf and you're stuck using those blades with those saws and you can't put them on older saws with thick riving knives.
While writing this I'm convincing myself that's the deal.

You’re right about the riving knife. The knives on the REQs measure 2.2mm.

I’ve been wondering if one can simply replace the knife when 1.8mm parts become available

Too bad it isn't a spring release like on a table saw to remove, swap them.  If that's the only thing stopping the interchangeability of the blades.

[member=11933]ScoFF[/member]  Tenryu makes a thin kerf blade for the older TS55.  It comes with a matching riving knife.

can i buy the RK for the new ts55 on the Ekat, and fit it to my tsc reb?  as if you can, i will, or i may just end up running no RK

In looking at the marketing for this new version of the TS55 F and TS55 FEQ-F-Plus, they mention the blades, plus "concentrated torque." I don't know what concentrated torque means, but this sounds like the primary change is the thinner blades (and a riving knife to match the width), but not a more powerful motor. Is that right?
