I finally found a use for the TS55 parallel guide (491469). If you want to cut stock that is narrower than the width of the guide rail, it can be hard to firmly clamp the stock down. The solution is to butt a piece of stock of the same height next to it, and clamp that down. However, how do you stop the unclamped piece from wandering out from under the guide rail?

By using the parallel guide to keep it wedged in place under the guide rail.

Here is the frame profile that I want to cut in two. As you can see, only 2 1/2" or so will be under the guide rail- not enough to clamp. I just cut a similar piece which is lying on the left of the rail.

I butt up similar thickness material to provide a good clamping surface.

The material is ready for cutting but without the parallel guide it could wander out.

The parallel guide will hold everything in place to keep the cutting line nice and straight.

Perfectly straight cut.

Thanks, it's midtown Manhattan in the rain. It really captures the way the light reflects off the water everywhere, with everybody hunkering down under umbrellas. I picked it up 10 years ago in Soho.

Hi,

Very cool idea. I have that guide and have had that same cutting problem. I will be trying that next time it comes up.
