TS55. REQ vs FEQ retrofit

Seen the new model with the newer 1.8mm blade and splinter guard. My question is it is pointless to buy a brand new TS55 when i bought my REQ less than a year ago. Can I buy the newer splinter guard 1.8mm and new blade installed on my REQ and for it to work as revised FEQ.

Apparently, there are several parts that make it not worth the expense to retrofit - it is not just the riving knife.

What issues are there with using older blades, 2.2mm, vs the newer ones, 1.8mm, with the TS55 FEQ?

It's understandable why you couldn't use a 1.8mm blade on at TS55 REQ (2.2mm splinter guard) since it wouldn't cut a thick enough kerf, but can it work the other way around?
