I'm thinking of picking up a universal 28 tooth blade for my ts55 to speed up cuts on thick stuff like chipboard worktops.

Are they much faster than the standard 48 tooth and do they still leave a good enough edge on Formica worktops for edging ?

I find I have to do a 40mm top in 2 cuts or the saw (110v) slows too much

I have used the panther blade for laminate a couple of times and you can get a good finish if you do a scoring cut first but that's still 2 goes .but it is fast . I use a trend t.c.g. 48 tooth laminate blade , it's a whole lot cheaper and lasts longer between sharpening . It's the same dimensions as the festool blades are so no worries about the splinter guard.  Just my humble experience . I realise I have committed a sin to some fellow members but I can live with it  [smile]

I have just been looking at the dart blades but it says it's 165mm not 160mm. I've got one for my Makita circ saw but not used it yet.

ahh this could be a usefull thread for me. im fitting a kitchen just now and had been gonna take my blade to get sharpened. if a suitable blade is available it would help me out

Put the trend 1 on mine today cuts well and at £15 +vat it had to be given a go

i was looking at a few on ebay last night. there seems slight variations in size plus kerf thickness. are the trend blades the same dimensions as the festool blade?

what sorta tooth count would be fine for worktops? obviously ive been using the standard blade. but if i could drop slightly lower id go lower and have 2 blades.

The first time I used my ts55 was on worktops with the universal blade, it did the job but was blunt (to my standards) by the time I'd cut a sink and hob cut out. I looked at the options available and decided on the special saw blade specifically for laminated tops etc-code 496308 (Festool) Didn't really want to spend that money on a blade, but I've got to say I've not regretted it once! I've not done three kitchens since with multiple cut outs and finish end cuts that needed the edging trim gluing on. The blade is still good and was defo worth spending the money. All in all, the ts55 is saving me time and money each time I use it. Money saved towards my next indulgence  [big grin] hope my opinion helps you out- joiner 1970.

It's more about the tooth shape.  For laminate , alternative bevel  don't last as long as top centre ground blades as the top of the bevel  blunts quickly, most laminate blades start at 48 teeth. You can get trend blades identical to festool , mine is.
