Just bought a ts55r and I'm wondering which blade and speed setting would be the best for rip cuts on english oak  ???

For ripping timber, you need the panther blade. With that blade you can run it at full speed if you want, or slow it down a bit if you prefer.

The 48-tooth blade is not for ripping solid timber - you can try it if you want, but the timber will burn, and your blade will be blunt fairly quickly.

Thanks  JRB  new to all this festool stuff  been using makita for the last 15 years, got bought a cxs the other day to use on a kitchen install really impressed, think I've got the festool bug now

This is the one you want: 496301.

Make sure you get this one - there is an older version out there which is different. Some dealers, unbelievably, still have stock of the older one (despite them being changed 3 or 4 years ago...

Just go from the part number.

If you are ordering online, FFX seem to have the best price at the moment; £27.00 including VAT and delivery.
