I've been ripping 3/4 cherry today and after some tough use it would throttle down to a very low speed as if it were cutting out.  stopped, waited 5-8 seconds and began cutting again.

Is this the normal behavior when the electronics shuts it down for thermal overload?

Yes. It will operate shorter and shorter with longer wait times if you don't let it cool down. What blade are you using out of curiosity?

Peter

brand new blade as what originally came on the saw which hasn't had much use since new last month.  Is there a more appropriate blade?

There are better blades for ripping.  Depending on your wood species you might be able to get by with the universal blade or if the material is hard or thicker then go with the Panther ripping blade.

Blade changes are so fast and easy that you should never have to compromise on blade usage.

you do need the ripping blade for ripping, there is a universal blade that will do cross cuts as well as rip but finish is not as good, the rip blade goes through oak like a hot knife,

you are over loading machine
