TS55REQ wobbles on base

Finally I got my “NEW” TS 55 REQ the other day.  Just to clarify:  “NEW” means refurbished – so please don’t expect fresh from assembly line tool.  And some things where missing so check it.

I hope it’s ok if I post it here, I would like to get the more experienced users opinion on some of the saw performance aspects.

When I placed my saw (fresh out of the box) on a flat surface the sole plate wobbled diagonally as if it was warped. Upon further investigation I discovered that whenever changing the bevel angle the front of the saw does not stop exactly at 0 (slightly below) thus causing this phenomenon.  I am not pushing down on it, not even touching it, saw is sitting on its own, flat on the surface – if I lock the front and back knobs it will wobble unless I slightly lift front bevel and ensure it’s dead on 0.
Are you experiencing this as well?

Also I noticed that the spring loaded riving knife moves freely side to side, more than the width of the blade.  Manuel doesn’t say anything about it.  Is this normal?

Hi,

   The riving knife does wiggle a bit on my TS55 (not REQ)  but you may want to check with the service department.

   I do know that the bevel angle doesn't always land on zero there is a thread about that  here on FOG.

   I am having a hard time picturing how that makes the saw not sit flat?  So maybe there is something else going on with the base plate? Does it wobble when the front and rear bevel knobs are loose or only when they are tightened?

Hey, welcome to the forum. I had an REQ before the recall and the one I sent back was brand new. I wouldn't see why mine being in such prestine condition wouldn't be thrown back into circulation but who knows. As for the knife, I don't recall such a flex as you're discribing.

For the angle I would check out Angle Problem

Thank you guys for pointing me in the right direction.

In my particular case it only wobbles when the front and rear bevel knobs are tightened and it’s not exactly in pristine condition…

I would have thought that you got the back that you sent in for the repair... am I missing something ? is it just a lucky dip?

Dekoy, I'm checking to see what the condition was of the saw you were sent. Edit: According to my colleagues, you should have been informed that you were getting a like-new saw in return to expedite your shipment. I have someone who will be contacting you shortly.

Festoolfootstool, generally customers are received their exact saw back. There was a problem with his shipment (I believe an incorrect address) that was causing a delay so a replacement saw was shipped to expedite the process.

I had posted that my saw "wobbled" out of the systainer too. I just loosened the bevel knobs and sat it on a flat surface and retightened them and all was fine. I think it's how they are being packed at the factory.
