Thanks for introducing me to the cmt hardie blade.  This will make my life a lot easier and dust free.  I hate cutting hardie with a mask on, especially on warm days like today.

I take it you received it and it worked out for you?

A few other tidbits form the owners manual;

Page 17;

D) Plaster and cement-bonded fibre boards
Due to the high build-up of dust, use of a cover ABSA-TS55 (accessory) mounted to the side of the protective cover is recommended.

Page 12-Recommended speed from the owners manual;

Plaster and cement-    1-3
bonded fibre boards

If you're using the Hardie for siding, look into LP SmartSide. If its tile backer there are other options, maybe anther thread.

I use a lot of hardi plank.  Its a great product but expensive.    I have used Nichiha that is a Chinese copy thats $4 a board where  Hardi is about $7.  Definitely like the Hardi a lot better, and its preprimed thats  a plus.

Hello Tom

I too would like to thank you for putting me straight on cutting fiber cement boards with the TS 55  [thumbs up]

When I first purchased the TS 55 going back quite a while, I told the store guy what I was proposing to do and he told me in no uncertain terms that it was a big no no to cut such boards. The boards that I hope to finally use in our loft conversion one day is Fermacell, I don't know if you've any experience of these particular boards Tom? The store guy told me about the Festool AXT 50 LA-Plus and that is what I would need to undertake that task.

Having surfed left right and centre these last few days I have seen your posts on other sites also, stating the same that the TS 55 is up to the task and that Festool supply a PCD saw blade specifically for the TS 55.

It seems the Festool PCD saw blade (F28516) is widely available in Australia even at this time:

http://www.festool.com.au/Diamond-Sawblade-160x22/16x20-Z-8-teeth

I asked a well known Festool supplier late yesterday afternoon and he had never heard of it or price it up as his Festool price list only recognized six digit numbers, and would not accept a part number beginning with a letter. It was too late to try Festool UK to see if it is for sale here.

I have ordered the additional dust cover (491750) which should increase dust extraction. If I was to get the Festool PCD blade I cannot see how I would be doing anything detrimental to hamper my warranty....... If I end up using a CMT fiber cement blade, I guess I'll have to just take a chance with the warranty.

Interesting to see that the Festool Australia site sells the CMT blades (but does give the warranty warning):

http://www.festoolproducts.com/CMT-236-160-04H-Fiber-Cement-Blade-for-TS-55-Track-p/236.160.04h.htm

If I hadn't have seen your posts I would still be pondering buying this little used Festool AXT 50 LA-Plus Building materials saw 561442 from the German eBay site:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/FESTOOL-Baustoff-Trennsage-AXT-50-LA-Plus-/261528057054?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3ce44974de

As it stands and from what I have learned from you the dust cover and a PCD saw blade is all I need, so again THANK YOU  [smile]

Just spoke to Festool UK and asked about PCD saw blade, F28516. They did not recognize the part number, I asked them to type in "Festool F28516" into Google and to select the top hit, it is the Australian Festool site. They did this, put me on hold and came back and said that blade is not available in the UK.

Guess it's going to be CMT then.......

I wonder if the 236.160.04H or 236.160.10H would be best for Fermacell board?

On this blister pack for a 236.160.04H, it does state on the disc "Recommended for Fermacell" along with other boards:

I have been unable to find a similar shot of the 236.160.10H, to see if that also states "Recommended for Fermacell"

Any European members on here have any experience of these blades and Fermacell board?

I would love to be able to ask someone that has significant insight into Festool Product Management, what their marketing strategy really is.

They make available the TS 55 saw to every Festool market in the world, advertise that you can use it for cutting cementious based product, market a PCD blade for that exact purpose and then only offer the blade in Australia? [doh]

I went to the Festool.de website, and when I searched for F28516, I get "Es wurden 0 Ergebnisse für "F28516" gefunden." So that PCD blade isn't even available in Germany.  [doh]

So I guess I can now start another acronym:
NAAEA Not Available Anywhere Except Australia [poke]

And for me the best part is, a good friends daughter has just come back from an Australia holiday  [crying]

Still I think she knows somebody out there so I could always ask them to get it and ship it for me  [thumbs up]

I do have some CMT router bits and as I'm only a part time hobbyist they seem very good quality to me. I'm sure their fiber cement cutting blades will be adequate for what I need to do, especially going from professionals posts on here  [smile]

I do a lot of stuff with my tools that you are probably not supposed to do.  All I care about it is getting the task at hand done.

I think the availability of a blade designed to cut cementitious material might relate to exposure hazards regulations and liability in the USA.

This may or may not help but I've used PCD blades made by a company called Dart in my old Hitachi circular saw to cut cement boards.

Think mine was 235mm in diameter and it only has five or six teeth. Ferociously expensive blades.
Cuts well though but I need the full on dust mask and kit. Not a nice job to do on a hot day.

Just checked and Dart produce a 160mm blade with a 20mm bore and a 2.4mm kerf so don't expect the splinterguard to be spot on for the 2.2mm blades after you use it with that blade.

Wow it is not cheap is it?
PM me.

Question #2... is what jig saw blade is recommended for curved cuts on these fibre boards?

I have a bosch pendulum jig saw with a bosch blade and have been cutting hardie plank siding with it over the last couple weeks. Im not doing a lot of cuts with it.  Maily around electrical  boxes and windows.  It says it designed for cement board.
