Cutting speed recommendations that Festool provides are about the type of material. Hardwood, for example, is 3-6. How about material thickness? Would you use higher or lower setting when cutting 60 mm hard maple, for example? I realize there is feed rate to take into account with cut quality being the ultimate criteria, but I like splitting hair and just curious what are the preferences. My experimentation results are inconclusive. Not the least of concerns is which speed is easier on the motor when dealing with thick dense materials.
Thank you.

Generally, for wood, always use speed 6. If you experience burning, lower the speed and/or check the toe in on the saw. Your feed rate should be such that you're not forcing the saw. Let it make the cut. This should be the case regardless of material thickness.

i  leave my saw (ts55)  on 6(or highest) . more power the better. if its not cutting then it is probably the blade being blunt or the saw needs adjustment.

How can you tell if its out of adjustment?  What do you check?
