TSO MTR-18 question

I have been looking at TSO and their products. I have been trying to figure out what projects would the MTR-18 angle system be used for. Like why would someone need to put an angle on a sheet good. What type of work would you be doing to use this feature.

I think the angle feature is if you're building a multi sided shape like a hexagon, say for a table. I got the whole kit for my birthday back in August but haven't found a use for it as of yet. Having the MTR-18 triangle with the newly introduced taller threaded pegs that register off your guide rail for squaring the rail to the fence is pretty awesome. The angle brackets for clamping inside a carcass for squaring it up are nice. The angle adjust I'm sure I'll use some day but haven't seen the need yet.

TSO keeps making improvements/adjustments to the accessory kit and they aren't the best at describing how everything works. Mike's Woodshop on YouTube did a nice video on the MTR-18 that helped me understand how it all goes together. TSO seems to be investing into their own YouTube channel and hopefully will put together a real life usage video of the triangle as I think it has a lot of potential.

That is kind of what I am thinking also. The basic square part seems to be good, with the option to add the angle part later, but I was trying to see besides to make a shaped table, what other options would you use to use the angle part.

Videos on the usage of the MTR-18 have not been that frequent.  That is a shame.  I admit that I was going to do one but it was delayed.  The MTR was designed to allow those who use a grid of 20 mm holes that are accurately spaced to be able to cut an infinite number of angles.  And more...

Off of the top of my head -

Cutting segmented pieces to make blanks for turning projects (segmented bowls)

Picture frame work

Trim work

It opens up an MFT table with a track saw to create any of the pieces one would normally do with a compound miter saw.

Not going to be a lot of uses, but if say you are cutting plywood for under pitched roofs and want it really dead on.  Overkill for that for sure.  Maybe someone has a dream of building a funky playhouse/treehouse for the kids in the shape of a Truncated icosahedron.  Maybe you are working with a Geodesic Dome home.

I doubt people will use it a lot, but if someone gets into more creative projects I could see it.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] - we really appreciate your comment  and encouragement on the MTR-18 thread. It reinforces our own realization that we need to do a better job of "informing" which why Eric at tsoproducts.com is now set up to produce our own videos.
