On October 7, 2017, I received an email from TSO Products with the subject line "TSO Products Presents the Next Generation Guide Rail Square".

The email goes on to read:

"For the past two years, input from craftsman like you have helped shape TSO and the products we engineer. So we wanted you to be the first to know we've got a little surprise up our sleeves: the next generation of the GRS-16 and GRS-16 PE will launch next week, with shipping beginning on October 16.

Thanks to incredible feedback from customers like yourself, these products will feature refinements to what are already the easiest to use, most accurate guide rail squares on the market.

Stay tuned for a launch email next week, and an exclusive discount if you've already purchased an earlier version of the GRS-16 or GRS-16 PE.

With anticipation,

Hans, Eric & the TSO Team"

As of today (10-13-2017) I haven't heard anything elso from TSO products and their website gives no hint about an updated version of their guide rail squares. I've search here on the FOG and I don't see any mention of this.

Have any of you heard anything about this or have any additional information?

Thanks.

I e-mailed them yesterday morning and they said they were still planning to announce this week. I think they jumped the gun sending that promotional e-mail out.

I talked to Hans about something else a day or so ago.  He mentioned the changes coming.  It would be so wrong for me to say what they are.  So I won't.

Rest assured that they listen.  And listening includes listening to input here on how to be clear about product descriptions and marketing.

I am certain that they will be announcing soon.  As soon as everyone wishes?  Not sure about that one.

we're flattered at all the interest! - thank you.
Our aim is to have the occasional TSO INSIDER newsletter arrive in subscribers in-box on weekends.
The next INSIDER is slated to go out this weekend with updates on our website next week.

Yes, we're still learning ways to improve our product communication process.

Hans

An updated version ALREADY?! So the first one wasnt perfect huh? Glad I waited.

There are changes incorporated into the new square that are the result of customer feedback.  They are a nimble company that has the ability to adjust and improve on a quicker time frame than other firms.  The original squares remain viable and accurate.

This may be perfect timing.  I was going to order one of the TSO squares when I bought my first tracksaw last week, but didn't because I wasn't sure which one I should buy or if I should buy both of them.  If I wait a little bit longer I can get the new and improved version although I'm still not sure if I should get both squares or just one of them.

Yeah, perfect timing... I ordered a GRS-16 PE Friday morning. 18 hours later the new model is announced.  :'(

I di not see anything about what improvements were made. Just curious.

Here is the listing of improvements from the [member=61691]TSO_Products[/member] website:
Thanks to feedback from the TSO user community, these latest squares embody a number of requested features and refinements:

Lighter than its predecessor despite being CNC machined from 25% thicker aluminum, with a mating vertical edge that now perfectly matches the height of your guide rail extrusion for maximum support and engagement
Both squares now fit in a single Systainer—see our new Dual FoamPac Systainer Insert
Latch hook now features a resilient coating to grasp and protect the edge of your guide rail
Reshaped T feature lead-in makes it even easier to install onto your guide rail
Additional accessory mounting provisions included—see our new Angle Accessory and stay tuned for some exciting new products building off the GRS-16 platform
Adjustments to key tolerances to better accommodate production variances observed in guide rail manufacturing
Fasteners used on all TSO brand tools are now metric for worldwide availability
New, fully recyclable all-corrugated white packaging

OK, I received another email from them early this morning which directed me to their website where I found the following information:

The Original Guide Rail Square, Refined

[member=64998]PaulH99[/member] , perhaps an email to TSO thru their email system might alter your situation.

I thought of that, but it's already been shipped. There's no reason to ask for a replacement at this stage. I was grousing more than anything else :)

Hopefully you're pleasantly surprised and the new version is what shipped.

Bought one of the original PE versions, so I am wondering what the new ones have that mine does not?

I can see a couple of improvements from the pictures.  Looks like the addition of mounting holes for a piece of angle aluminum and a wider clamp with some plastic on the hook part to protect the guide rail.

Did I miss anything else?

I wonder if it would be possible to send in the original GRS-16 for some upgrades. I don't care about it being lighter, but may like some of the newer features. This is a very fast upgrade. Not sure its even been a year.

So - am I reading this right?

If I own one of the originals - the only thing new for me is the ability to buy a piece of aluminum angle iron with some holes drilled in it.

This is hardly "exciting new UPGRADES". Especially after months of teasers about parallel guide systems, add on tape measures, etc.

I got the email early this morning teasing new upgrades, went to the website that also teased new upgrades, and basically found nothing.

Perhaps you should contact TSO directly thru their email system.  My guess is that they monitor that more closely than they do the FOG.
