Just when you think you have it pretty gall darn good, there's always someone who has it better...
EDIT:  This video was taken down at the behest of the shop owner... :-\
Ultimate Tool Shop Tour

Speechless II...

What I’d like to know is what project is that other guy working on when the home owner has all this equipment?

An in-ground pool maybe?  A runway for a personal plane?

Every other project could be performed by the home owner.

A lot of suspicious comments along those lines on the video  if you go to YouTube. It's like watching American Pickers. You want to believe it's real but you know it isn't. Something fishy going on with this arrangement.

I wanted to build something like that vacuum system. Someone posted about the company that makes it a while back. It's ultra expensive.

That guys has way too much money.  Ive never seen a small shop like that have so much high tech equipment.  Unreal.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] I have two of these

and when I saw the dovetail jig I knew it would be a perfect application to put them in use  [wink]

From L.V.

The owner of the shop is real and a member of the original FOG (Felder Owners Group). He has all the equipment. The video showed up on our site too. The premise of the video is suspect since nothing about the trim job was ever mentioned except in the comments. Another bit of click bait for You Tube hits. Its amazing how many of these shops are around. They typically are owned by Doctors of all professions and are better equipped than most professional woodworking shops trying to make a living and not playing.

The guy could have spent his money on a Maserati… This is way cooler.  [cool]

Shops like this are rare in the hobbyist community, but not unheard of. I'd estimate that several dozen members of the other FOG have similar setups. Personally speaking, I could have purchased a lifetime of furniture and cabinetry for what my tools cost. But saving money isn't the point. As a full time engineer, working behind a computer 10 hours a day, one becomes a bit disconnected from the physical world. In my spare time, I like to pursue hobbies that are both intellectually stimulating and require a bit of hands on hard work. Woodworking is a great outlet for both, which increases my overall happiness and physical well being. It's hard to put a price on that.

I'll venture a guess that many owners of these high end shops have a similar rational.

I think that vac system uses Nordfab ducting. A manual Nordfab 6" blast gate runs $55, while the automatic version runs $600.  [eek]

It's pretty nice stuff, it's leak free and sections connect together quickly just using an over-center clamp.

Both the vacuum table and the press are from Barth which might be owned by Martin now. The Barth vacuum table was probably around $8,000.00 and the Multipress would be $20,000.00+. A very extravagant hobby shop but who cares its his money to do with as he pleases. The great thing is that when he's done playing there will be a lot of affordable great equipment on the used market.

Two different people. To the best of my knowledge, about 100 or so Barth 500v tables exist in the US.

Maybe the whole 'project bid' from the OP is just a ploy to drive subscribers to the "Extreme Woodworker" channel. Whole thing stinks.
Enough with conspiracy theories. Someone showing a shop, so what. Thousands of videos like this.
Extreme Woodworker is a member here on FOG, very professional, great videos.

Not quite the same. Similar capabilities and style, but significantly different price points for many items. ExtremeWoodworker has a world class shop, but the gentleman in the most recent video is on another level. Easily double the total.

I was out of line and retracted my comments. I made a mistake. I personally don't have anything against these guys showing off their shops. I'd have the same setup if I had the money. Some guys find joy in expensive cars, others in tools.

Unfortunately the negativity expressed by individuals in the YouTube comments and other forums will trickle back to the shop owners. My guess is they will be hesitant to share again. As a community we all lose when those with passion and some great ideas retract into the shadows. Sure, 99% of the viewers don't own comparable tools, but there are always gems to be found. His dovetail jig was a perfect example. That's within the reach of many here.

Hopefully ExtremeWoodworker finds some time to post new content. I've watched all of his videos...learned a ton.
