Hi I'm Bill and I'm a festool-a-holic. That said, I needed a way to make a door lock on a Humidor I made. The Domino made it possible in a few minutes. This Humidor can be built with a Domino for almost all the joinery other than the double dovetails. Please enjoy. I'll have some more unconventional projects comming soon. Thanks for having me. (my first post)

Sorry, I'm new here. I posted this in another place. Here's a slide lock I made for the doors of a Humidor I built recently. A large part of this can be built using a Domino. Please enjoy.

Hey Bill,

Really nice.  I'm in  the rough and tumble end of this biz.  It's always a pleasure to see such pretty work.

Hi Dan

Nice Work!!!

A week or so somebody posted about your Domino lock on the humidor.

Can you give us any details on how you made the lock?

Thanks
Dan Clermont

I'm happy to share. All I did was draw a horizontal line on the face before I split the doors. Then I drew 2 lines vertically that indicate where the bit will start and stop. Then I made a plunge cut into the face, being careful not to go to deep. Once the slot on the face was done I split the doors on the table saw. This now reveals the edge where the ebony domino will slide in and out of once I make the mortises. The one on the left is cut to the deepest setting while the one on the right is set to the shallowest setting. Then I drilled a 1/8th inch hole in the domino and slide it into the side with the slot. Once in place I glue in a brass pin. Now I made the beveled Ebony handle for the front and drilled an offset 1/8th inch hole in it. This allows it to overlap the right door and become centered on the front. WHALLA!! a slide lock. I almost did it faster than I wrote this post. All I can say is I love these tools.

I'm starting my next project this weekend. The Domino is going to get a work out. I want to use it for the majority of the build. Sometimes I'm not so good about taking pictures but I'll try to document the build. FYI the humidor took around 5 months so I can't make any promises. :-[

Bill,
Welcome, and thanks for joining!  And thank you for posting such an amazing project to introduce yourself to the forum.

If you browse around, you'll see that a lot of us have been posting creative ways to use the Domino, as well as other Festool tools.

Definitely, post more photos of your Domino applications.

Matthew

Thanks Matthew. You'll be seeing a lot of me around here. I'm starting a Jewelry box for SWMBO ;D It'll be built almost entirely using the domino. I'm going to "try" to document the entire build. I'll get back to you soon.

Am I allowed to post work that didn't involve Festool? I also Turn and I do plan on getting my domino involved in the futrure. ;D

Very impressive Bill!  How did you cut the dovetails - Incra?

Tom.

You guessed it. I've been using an incra for around 10 years. There like the festool of fences.

Yeah, of course.  But do try to include Festool somehow!!

I agree.  In fact, I've posted about this a few times!

Dominos in contrasting woods to join small blocks before turning?  That might produce some interesting patterns on the exposed surfaces of the turned project.

Beautiful work, Bill. We are generally an eclectic group and enjoy all sorts of woodworking and, contrary to some, it does not need to be all Festool.  ::) That said, any threads that emphasize the versatility and utility of the Domino would be timely.  ;)

For instance, "I cleaned up with my CT22."  :D :D :D

You've got a point. I do use my festool sander to sand just about everything. I just bought a DX-93 today with all the goodies. I'll take it for a test drive this weekend. It would have made the Humidor easier too. BTW the jewelry box is underway for my LOMLs graduation gift for nursing school. Most of the build will be done with the Domino. I've been good about taking pictures so far. If all goes well, I'll document it in a thread.
