I'd like to enter this in this contest that was spoken of too. ;D

You got it Bill, feel free to add anthing thing to the thread that you think is worth adding.

Is there somewhere I can read about this contest? I honestly don't know anything about it.

As I mentioned above, I made the slide lock using my Domino. BUT... I didn't have my Domino until the later stages of this build. What I will tell you is that if I would have had my Domino the job would have been done about 3 months sooner. (6 months in total to build) All the joints were done with either M&T joints by hand, keyways  or biscuits. The doors and the lid were assembled using the Domino to attach the frames to the faces. Then the whole thing was sanded using my ets125eq. I'm currently doing a turning with the domino and building a stand up jewelry box using my domino for almost everything. I've been documenting the entire build on that one too. I'll keep you posted on these other projects.
Good luck to everyone.

Bill another awesome piece. Everything you make is in the running as a contest winner.

Your wood choices are impeccable and the over all look of your pieces have a "Wyco" look to them. I think anyone familiar with your work can see a common thread in the design, though the pieces are clearly different. I think I will refer to your pieces as Wyco's.

"Honey I put your watch in the Wyco" sounds cool!

Thanks so much. My daughter is sitting here and read this. We are very thankful that people like my efforts. It's great reinforcement and motivation.

Here's pic of the home made Quilted Maple veneer  and the vacuum bag gluing it to the substraight

I almost forgot the Gaboon ebony hinges ;D These are made by making a piece of Ebony 3/8ths thick and about5"x7"  then round over the end grain on both sides. Now stand the piece up and make another cut to achieve a 3/4 round cut. Next you lay it back down and use a spiral down cut bit and remove the excess. Next you make box joint cuts on both of the rounded over ends off setting each side by 3/8th". Now you split the two sides and take the pieces to the Incra hinge crafter. This tool is really only for drilling the hole down the center. With out it though, it'd be very difficult to make these hinges. I promise as soon as I can get back in my work shop I'll take plenty of pictures of these builds.

Well, I was going to take some more pictures with my new found photography skills but my BIL left 2 days before me to go to Hawaii(Humidor is at his house). I'll use my backdrop and better lighting when I get back. Please wish me luck in the contest. With the talent here, I'm gonna need it. Good luck to everyone as well.

I would like to re-up this piece for the contest. When I get back I'll take better pictures with the use of the info I got from the photo section her on FOG.

Bill, Your suppose to be enjoying a vacation in Hawaii!  8)

WTF are you doing on the FOG? ::)

Bill,
Your work is unbelievably good! Your choice of wood, grain matching, finish, and joinery could not get any better. But I think for the contest, we need to see how festools made this work possible. At least that is what I am looking for in my first place vote. Pictures showing the use of Festools and new techniques with festools during the build is what I want to see. I know that is not how a conventional woodworking contest is judged but I think we have created a new and excellent dynamic here.

Good luck, it's not like you need it. ;D

Eiji

Well Eiji, that is going to be difficult. If you notice, this was my first project I posted on FOG. I had no idea about a contest, where as the new contestants did have that knowledge. They have the opportunity to create a documentation because of this contest. When i built this piece I used my Domino to make the lock and my sanders to do the finish work. When the contest was first posted it said "Post work that was made using at least one Festool" Not who used more festool or documented it the best. I'm in Hawaii right now but when I get home I'm going to take better pictures of this piece. If I'd had previous knowledge of the contest I'd have done things differently. If it's OK with the judges, I'll do a recreation of how I made the slde lock, but it won't be the doors that are on it. I'd rather ask if this is acceptable than cheat. Anyway, I'll check back on Saturday. I'll be flying all night tonight. See you all soon ;D
