I watched an excellent video by Scott Lewis on making some very unique cutting boards and just had to give it a try.  They are great fun to make, but a bit un-nerving as they get cut and re-glued several times in the process.  Glue clamp ups are especially exciting.  No Festools were harmed during the making of these boards.  [wink]

Fantastic art work  [eek]

The second one is made of purpleheart and redheart?

Mario, the second one was made of purple heart and black dyed veneer strips.  It gets a little tricky measuring for the laminations because their combined thicknesses must add up to be exactly the same as the wasted  (routed) curve width.  Still though, great fun.

VERY nice stuff [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

There are a lot of nice elements that set these apart from a traditional design. It appears that all 4 edges have a large radius to produce a pincushion form.
The large radius round over on all 4 edges.
The finger grooves on the 2 ends.
The ribbons down the middle.

I think this would be easy work for a Shaper.

Just curious what cutting board 1 looked like?

Cheese, A shaper sure would have been nice, but my trusty router table had to suffice for these.  As far as what cutting board 1 looked like, it never made it successfully out of the glue up due to a miscalculation on laminate stack thickness that left slight gaps in places along the curves.  I simply re-routed and re-cut the laminate stack out and adjusted as needed.  That is why it looks so much like no. 3  [embarassed]

Beautiful work!  I have a Shaper.  This would be relatively easy to make with it!

Might have to try it out.

Thanks for sharing and getting us inspired!
