An upgrade to the C18 / T18, now termed the CXS 18 / TXS 18. In my opinion not much of a successor to the venerable 12V models that merely lent their name to these new ones but looking very nice nevertheless and the overall look seems to tie in nicely with the TID 18.

Thanks [member=68534]Hawkeye0001[/member] for sharing these new products, I had no idea!  I uploaded this same image to the other thread, but here's the image again in case others have problems viewing the picture:

Hmmm, the CXS version must be the Romanian sweatshop version. Let's see if I'm right (and that yet more once-German-made Festool drills are being outsourced to Romania).

[member=6297]Festoller[/member] thanks for the link, gives an even better impression of the actual size. That is being a bit ridiculous to call it 'XS-anything' while it's really the same size as a T18 or TID18, but with the tiny 10mm chuck from the TXS on it. AND ship it in (the equivalent of) a SYS 3 instead of what used to fit in a SYS 1. Really not much of a brushed TXS after all but a T18 modernization.

Yeah.  I really don't follow the logic on moving the name to a completely different product.  This seems dumb.  It's like coming out with a squeegee, and calling it the TS56.

As always, pure speculation:

Maybe TXS and CXS 18V are complimentary to TXS and CXS 10.8/12V.

Maybe they are not and 10.8/12V gets ditched.

Who knows at this point?

I don't like speculating about products I haven't had in hand. However, I had situations where the 10.8/12V CXS would fit in tightest spaces and allow me to drill there. A regular 18V battery wouldn't have fit in there, a 18V "high power" battery surely not. Sometimes there would have been another solution if I hadn't had the 10.8/12V CXS, sometimes not. The 10.8/12V CXS has always been my favorite problem solving drill/driver - in between keeping it meticulously clean for installs. I might have to get another one, "just in case".

So lets see where this train goes. I'm excited, excited, excited!

Kind regards,
Oliver

The TXS 18 specs suggest that it’s not replacement for T18 (lower torque) So it should be something in between regular TXS and T18, maybe for people that rather have a bigger drill than carrying extra charger.

Wouldn't that be the 15 volt unit that they killed off a few years ago?

Exactly what I've been thinking

Not really because the T12 and T15 were the same size and weight as the T18. Never really understood why they had three voltage platforms back then but those were the early days of Li-Ion, so thankfully they quickly evolved into one 18V option (that also takes the older 12 and 15V batteries).

Oooh. New festool drills, my favourite :)

Very intrigued by the C drill. I loved the cxs but sold it because it was never powerful enough to be my only drill on a project, and the T18 is hardly a bad performer in the delicate cabinetry installation department so . . The cxs was sold. But I’ve always missed it, and the C drill firm factor.

The C18 has terrible ergonomics imo (at least for me) and this new cxs 18 looks like it addresses those issues (thinner at the motor housing, no step above the trigger, more compact height)

I almost bought a C18 but was turned off based on the same things you found. If the CXS 18 is basically a CXS in an 18v form factor I may grab one. It all depends on the weight though. 3.5lbs or under would be ideal.

According to the info I found, the TXS 18 (bare tool) would weigh about 700g, add a 3.1Ah battery of 430g + a centrotec chuck of 40g and it would weigh 1170g in total. (or about 2.6lbs)

So quite a bit less than the T18 (1500g) and the TPC 18 (1780g) both with the 3.1Ah battery and centrocheck chuck.

Still, nowhere near as light as my brushless bosch flexiclick driver with homemade centrotec adapter and 2.0Ah battery at a total of 850g, but that is a 12V machine, not 18V.

That's pretty impressive for an 18v tool. My favorite drill, dewalt dcd800, is right at 3.5lbs with a powerstack 1.7 battery. I'll be keeping my eye on these for sure.

Unfortunately I just noticed they've deleted the site. Obviously someone was a little too early with releasing this information, or simply made a mistake by making it public, although if Festool already made it available to dealers, it could mean a quick release date. [wink]
