Update CTL Mini/Midi with new T-Loc top

Just completed this upgrade to my Midi dust extractor.

I ordered the parts (2 covers, 4 screws but 1 part number) from Festool USA and they arrived in two days.  The parts group knew the number without me having to look at ekat.  So they must be selling these in some quantity now.

Took about 25 minutes to swap out the top on my Midi.   Four Torx screws from the bottom hold on the black and white top pieces.  Then had to remove the power cord wires from the switch and remove the wire clamp.  The new parts include four longer screws to replace those that are removed.  You do need two sizes of Torx screw tips.

Really like the upgrade.  Not only did they add the T-Loc but they also widened the cord slot at the back which makes removing and recoiling and storing the cord a little easier as well.

I think total cost with shipping was about $60 USD.

This is awesome. I was searching on ekat (for my first time) and was having trouble figuring it out. so i searched to find the answer and this thread was in the results. I was cleaning my midi a few months ago and i walked to the other side of the shop tripping on the hose. well 6 feet away as i watched by midi belly flop off the table onto the ground. My Black part is smashed and since fixed with gorilla tape. I would love to not look like a "duct taper" and replace the part. A T-loc would make everything that much much more efficient.

Thanks for the info

Just ordered one of these too, guessing the 499748 fits both mini and midi ? I hope so as ive ordered it now.

Got stung by Paypal's exchange rates though should have been £44 but paypal charged £46 so its getting closer to nuts & bolts price.

Switched mine over on saturday. Pretty straight forward to do and like having a brand new bit of kit! :)

I really like the tab above and to the right of the T-Loc latch.  Keeps you counter clockwise, wise guys in line.  [poke]

I somehow missed this comment the first time I read it. That *is* interesting, and I do wonder why it's there? Since they haven't incorporated it on the Systainers, I've got to assume it's something unique to the DE's.

Anybody know the real answer?

No idea why it's like that, but it would bug me - I always turn them the other way! Don't know why, but I think it looks wrong with them turned 90* clockwise...

Edit: I'm guessing that the tab could be removed? Why they put it on in the first place is beyond me!

I wasn't sure which way I normally turned them. I was gonna go look for a picture of the stacks of First-Aid Systainers, then realized I need only glance to the left - at my avatar. I guess I turn them the 'approved' way - but it was an accident!

Oh, I'm *POSITIVE* that the tab could be removed.

[big grin]

I'd say about 30 seconds with a Dremel would do it!

Got mine today £46 Inc delivery from Holland, worthwhile upgrade. Took about 10 minutes to fit.

You know, having gone through this upgrade and really liking it every time I use it, I have to thank Festool for helping owners of their tools 'keep them current' by offering parts and forward-compatibility with so many of their products.

Few companies would go to this trouble to make this possible.

It's one more reason why Festool rocks as a company and their tools continue to deliver great value.

Thanks Festool for 7 years of parts availability after a tool is discontinued, and also for simple upgrades like this one.

Did my T-Loc top changeover today.  Pretty straightforward. One item of note though - the model number / serial number sticker is on the old top!  If you're concerned about this, remove it and glue it on your new top.

these look great guys but I'm new to Festool and just after spending a fortune!!!!

Next purchase is a Vacuum and I have one in sight, but it's top is broken so........

So any of you guys know where I could buy the older version or a part number for it?

Judging by all the swap overs going on, there must be some older second hand ones floating around in the UK or Ireland?

If the top is broken anyway, why not change it over to the new T-loc top as described here in this thread?

You can still order the old top (499748) , for €62.95 in Ireland. Which is more money than the new T-Loc top .

ah you are right, i'll get the new T-Loc one if I am buying new... just though I might be able to pick up a second hand one of the old model.

All my Systainers are old version, so T-Loc isn't much use to me really

I see, that wasn't clear from your original post.

There are a number of people responding in this thread who said they have switched their tops. You can send them a personal message to see if they're willing to sell you their old top if they still have it. Or post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the Classifieds section of this forum.

Generally, it is impossible to find USED spare parts of Festools, and might I say, unwanted. It is a lot easier to order them from Festool.

But since some people have switched their tops, you might get lucky. But make yourself clear.

While the new top is called a T lock version, it still has the latches for the classic systainers ;)

I'll be in London on 26 October for a few days.  how much do you want and i'll pick it up in person :D

I've got 12 with my fein

I order, received and installed this about 2 months ago. Since then i haven't actually mounted any tainers on my midi. but i know i could if i wanted, really really quickly.

Hmm, just paid for a CTM 26 AC yesterday. To be delivered this week.

Now feel like I should have waited till they came with the posher top as most of my boxes are T-Loc.
