..::UPDATED::..New Festool C15, C12 and CARVEX

Oh, and whilst your at it, a review too... If that's not too much to ask :-)

I'll have a chat to my dealer... See what they might be having coming in the pipeline, however, my dealer is not that bright - good deals and prices, just not that bright !!

Hi all

Spoken to the Dealer I always Deal with lol

He said the

BASIC Carvex festool Jigsaw pack  comes with the body & 1 battery for about ?250.00 + vat

Thought let you know the Starting price for the basic pack in the UK

Ill ask him for the new festool stand because he orderd some of them aswell!

He also had a Demo with the Carvex and said ITS AWWWWWWWSOME  which where is words!

Spoke to my Dealer today also & he said the same.  He seen them today for the first time & said the cordless carvex is the best jigsaw hes seen.  Said it is good for 4 hrs of work.  C15 awesome also & thinks the full set with all the chucks & 2 bats is around ?430 GBP.  He thought the carvex was approx 40GBP more than the current versions, which i don't think is too bad.  Gonna  put my PS 300 up for sale if anyone interested  [wink]  Its mint, only used it once.

the c15 is going to be 100 gbp cheaper than the t 15? the t15 set is something like 532 gbp

Sorry,

Plus VAT.  Everything in the trade is plus VAT.

One thing he did say about the cordless jigsaw.  If you select auto & pull the trigger the blade starts quite slow but when it comes into contact with wood it adjusts the speed itself.  Sounds quite clever.  He wasn't sure if the corded version did that.  He also said the strobe light is very cool.

Sorry for any confusion on the price,
Woodguy.

those prices seem reasonable something must be wrong

Maybe this is a hint: if you want to cut at another angle than 90 degrees you'll have to buy a separate foot that costs another 150 euros. What the Trion did at 300 euro, the Carvex does at 510.

Reasonable you said?  [unsure]

? 290 Quid including VAT for Carvex and 1  yes 1 batterie seems bit steep!!!

I would pay 320 max!! Really ?290including with 2 batteries!

I have just been given the UK blurb for the Festool Spring promos by my dealer MTS in Northampton and the Carvex is priced at £451-20 with the accessories systainer (angle table, adapter base, special base runners, etc) and £293-75 for the basic carvex.

The cordless Carvex with a Li on 2.6Ah battery, charger etc is £529-93 with accessories and either £372-48 with a charger or £313-73 without. (The battery pack is compatible with the C and T series drivers or TDK family.

The C15 set with fast fix elbow & eccentric adapter is £500-55 or as a basic £412.43.

MTS also say that they have placed orders for some stuff and it would appear to be on its way so it can be obtained before the 1st May release date.

If anyone wants confirmation or clarification call Marcus on 01604-751688.

I was told this:

full kit with all the bases & accessories systainer is about ?450.00 ( still one battery)

Dealer is sending me a catalogue with all the new stuff so i can confirm prices in a couple o days.  What he told me today is,

Kapex stand with both extension wings 360 GBP + vat
240 volt jigsaw 250 GBP + vat
C15 with no chucks but 2 bats 351 GBP + vat
C15 with all chucks 421 GBP + vat
Rotex 90, 322 GBP + vat with the linnear pad & assortment of paper

Will post some pics of the brochure when i get it.

{Removed dumb question}

On page 4 or 5 someone posted a Popular Woodworking link and stated the new batteries will work in the current drill.
Has there been any solid confirmation that the new LIon batteries will be compatible with the current C12?

If one were to buy a new LIon battery, I assume a new charger would also be needed, yeah?  Soooo.. making a C12 upgrade is probably going to be close to $200 for a LIon battery and LIon compatible charger...  ?

The way a Festool rep explained it to me is the new drill & charger will be backward compatible with NiCad batteries. The old drills will not be forward compatible with Li-ion batteries.

Re-reading this thread.... I just noticed that in the photos within the first two dozen posts show the current C12... and if you look closely at the "C15" is says C12 on the side!  What gives!?  Total fake out?   [scared]
...
Wood,

Take another look.  The pics show both the new C12 and C15.  I have the current C12.  Mine doesn't have the light, the little green knob over the battery, the funky lookin' battery or the belt hook.

Regards,

Dan.

That's a bummer the batteries aren't backwards compatible.  When Ryobi debuted their LIon batteries, the fact that they were compatible with all existing One+ tools was a huuge boost to the product line and sort of "rewards" existing owners by breathing new life back into a product.

No, there hasn't. On the other hand, there has been solid confirmation of the opposite.

WJ, I believe the issue is the electronic controls that protect the batteries in the drills. The old drills don't have the correct electronics to protect the new batteries.

Brice,

I believe you are pretty accurate on this. From what I have read current generations of Li ion batteries are pretty good providing they are operated within certain parameters. The parameters are a function of their chemistry and not subject to change by any one manufacturer.

Specifically they should not be charged to more than 70% of full charge nor discharged to less than 40% of full charge.

Exceeding these limits adversely affects battery life. To quantify battery life I am referring to the total number of charge/discharge cycles the battery will survive. Thus a good Li ion battery drill will just stop drilling when the battery drops to 40% charge. I understand that Festool and Protool drills behave in this fashion. As you might imagine there is a fair amount of research going on about getting access to the other 70% of charge!

With regard to the drills mentioned by Wood_Junkie....

The loss of battery life may be different for discharging beyond 40% compared to charging above 70% i.e. non linear. So having no discharge protection circuitry would give access to 70% of the charge but may reduce battery life by say 15% while also extending the working life of the drill. This could be a win for the customer and Ryobi as they then only have to stock one line of batteries and are seen to be actively supporting their customer base.

The discharge electronics may be in the battery.

This is just idle speculation on my part, however, as I have not seen the drills in question nor talked to Ryobi nor their sales people. My comments should not be seen as negative to Ryobi either, they are not meant to be. I did own a Ryobi sander that gave excellent life and would still be in use if the local agents had been easier to order parts through.

I am sure that Ryobi would  have covered off all the issues related to this, with regard to the market niche of the tools in question.

Nor, by the way am I an expert in battery technology , so i would be more than happy to hear the views of anyone who really does know about Li ion batteries.

Cheers

The Beryl Bloke

cheers bloke!

i did not know that about the li-ion batteries!
very interesting.
regards, justin.
