Upgraded my DW745

I mistakenly set mine up that way and it worked fine. Far as I can tell they are totally interchangeable.

Yeah I don't think it makes a difference, as long as the direction of travel arrow is in the right direction.

But well spotted :)

Concur.  Here's a shot of my CMS on which I use the stock guides.  [smile]

Ohhhhhh I like that Sparky. So you use the Jessem guides all the time? Do you ever switch over to the original Festool items?

Not Sparky but I use them on my CMS as well. It's situation dependent I like to have options. Sometimes the Festool setup makes more sense. It's all about what I'm trying to rout. Like if I have the face of the board against the fence and the board is only an inch thick, the Jessem guides are no good.

Thanks for that...🙏  🙏  Now I understand. Just curious which system you use more often?

Definitely use the Jessem whenever I can. If the board is face down it works great. When I first got the table I was all about trying to keep the fence flush with the bearing on bearing guided bits. Since then I realized it's a heck of a lot easier to let the bearing sit proud of the fence. Pretty much the only situation I don't ues the Jessem guides is like I said, when they can't properly register on a board on edge. The Festool setup flexes too much to provide that rock solid pressure I'm looking for.

Although the direction of feed requirement does make the position interchangeable I would not consider the feed wheels on the outside optimal. The reason is that with the feed wheels configured closest to the cutter (inside) you are able to keep the workpiece engaged in both guides for much longer. The full potential of the guides is lost or at least reduced as soon as one of the wheels releases the workpiece so the closer the wheels are to each other the better.

Just go be clear, I’m not planning to use it reversed.

That said, for a saw cut, I think placing them inline with the front and rear of the raised saw blade would be the best position? Not close together like on a router.

The guides would need to be slightly inboard (between the fence and blade) wouldn't they?

If it were possible to place them inline with the blade the outfeed side would be spanning the
kerf which doesn't sound safe. I have never used my guides on the TS, only the router table,
so just an observation.

Or are you talking about the table saw cutting guides, not the router table guides. I've never
seen the TS guides up close but I don't see how that would change my concern. If the wheels
are angled slightly to keep the workpiece against the fence, then placing the outfeed wheel in
line with the blade/kerf might drag the outboard half of the workpiece in toward the blade and
spoil the cut or worse.

From my limited (2 cuts) experience so far I think having the front guide a little further from the blade is beneficial. That way it engages before the stock touches the blade and pulls the material into the fence.

The location of the rear guide is somewhat dependent on the width of the cut, for very narrow rips (

I use them on pretty much everything except stock run through vertically.  [smile]

I don't think it makes much difference, if any, but I prefer having the gripping wheels (for lack of a better name) as close to the bit as possible to reduce any chances of material being pushed away from the bit.

That said, I really like the way that [member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] uses them with the extrusion on his table saw, and will very likely do that same thing on my Bosch table saw in the near future.

Quick update:

While fitting my hanging strips for my shutter project I realized I needed to shave 1/16" off two of them. They're 1" wide. I own a single Grr-ripper which is great for handling thin materials on the table saw but the hanging strips are 43" long so I'd need a second Grr-ripper to safely guide the material (hand over hand technique). When the cut is setup to do 15/16" on the DW745 you can't use the second Jessem guide near the riving knife. I was all set to go buy a second Grr-ripper until I realized I could use the first Jessem guide at the start of the cut then the Grr-ripper to get it through at the end. Sorry I didn't take pictures but the flexibility of these Jessem guides coupled with a single Grr-ripper is fantastic.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] - That sounds great but just so you know, Rockler has the Grr-ripper on sale for $59.99 and it comes with the heel kit for free.

Thanks, I’ve been meaning to buy a second sent for my router! It’s annoying moving then between the two!

Looks good.  I just ordered the parts for my 7491RS.

Nice zero clearance insert.  Did you make that?  If so what material did you use?

Thanks, yes, I just made it out of 1/2" plywood. Used a bandsaw and then the router
