I uploaded some images today and they have coordinates, but noticed also that old images uploaded do not.

Does FOG actively remove the uploaded image's location data? (If that's the case, great safety feature!)

Looks like they do not.

I just removed all of my photos that came from my phone. Think about a thief who wanted to see all your stuff and would be able to scour this board and find all they need... argh. I figured whatever forum software they would use would have done this (most do)

Admins... when an image is deleted from a post, is it actually deleted and not available via direct link?

Do you have a use for that information that is stored with your photos?

If not, you should be able to turn off recording of geolocation data in your
phone either in Camera settings or in phone settings.

On my Android phone there are a couple places where I can control EXIF data
and geolocation information used by apps.

It would be nice if the forum software also checked and stripped the EXIF data
out of uploaded images.

However, the flip side of that is some forum software (don't know about the FOG)
uses that EXIF data to know how to display the image. So if the photo was taken
in landscape orientation that information is part of the EXIF data and without it
some forum software can not display the image in the correct orientation. There
are fixes for that which the forum Admin would have to implement.

More info about privacy concerns and your images can be found here.

I do have a use for the data when it's being used on my phone... hikes, travel pics, etc. are nice to see on a map... But, putting the coordinates in gave a map to my back yard with a photo of my tools... don't like that too much!

If someone wrote a script that scraped the site, they could pretty much find out where a lot of us live, and the stuff we have. I don't like the possibility of that ever happening, so, I will definitely be stripping my EXIF location data out before posting any more photos here ever again!

If you are worried about metadata embedded in your images you should strip them and not count nor rely on anyones software to do that for you.

So, it looks like Safari on the iPhone will strip the EXIF data for you when you upload using it. I had uploaded the files on my Mac, and apparently, Safari on Mac OS X does *not* strip the EXIF data.

Maybe this will be useful for anyone who is concerned about their info.

Also, if you're like me, and pop files onto your Mac using AirDrop to edit / share using desktop Safari, before you AirDrop / share (and this works for everything on the Share options) you can strip location off using the steps in this document

Hope this helps!
