US kapex support wings

Warner,  I thought you setup INSIDE all the time,  I'm surprised to see that whole setup outside.  hmmmmmmmm

i can't think of many rooms to be able to setup those supports.

I have the same extensions but would like to get the newer festool ones.  But then I hate carting my Kapex on site.  I would never dare to assemble anything like your big face frame on site- I always try to build most things in the shop first - but that may be because most times i'm making it up as I go along  ;D
I have just bought a smaller CMS to take to site - weighs just 9kg but only has a 120mm capacity.  I just wish it was Festool quality. (I have their other mitre saw but the capacity is only really any good for small moldings like architrave)

I try to.  The view out there was nice, about 10' to the front door.  Plus there were drywallers in there in my way.

The big thing stopping me was the cat walk that went around the living room.

If I was inside, I wouldn't have used the supports but, they dont take up any room front to back though.

The thing is, I drew the panel sections full scale on the walls first.  Each section had different spacing between the styles.  It only took one day to cut and assemble them all.  I spent a couple days in the shop at home making some of the parts.

I also had to take each section in and scribe it to the floor and trim the ends to fit between the casings.

I know me and I know that I would have messed up some of those measurements if I tried to write them down and go back to my shop and make them.

Edit:  My trailer is left at their house during the week.  I rarely leave town to work.

This place is about 18 miles from home.  Takes about 23 minutes to get there.  I don't like dragging my 20' trailer back and forth everyday.

Not being nasty or anything. I own that setup I bought it with the kapex as a set.  I set it up once! Yes once and have NEVER I mean NEVER used it again it has been in my garage ever since as I have already lost one knob for it RCF send me another one though when I bought something from him.  I hate it!

I hated the fact the first time I had set it up was on a job it took 4 trips! 1 for the kapex 1 For the bench  1 for the left right arms extensions 1 for all the bits and bobs! I was showing it off really showing my mates at work what I had bought and I set it all up for fitting architrave and skirting.

I soon realised while setting it up I wont be doing this again. Also takes a lot of room in your van

You can not  adjust the arms and the bench has one adjustable leg so it is not for site at all. You need a perfect flat area really or you end up getting packers to lift up just more time wasting.

The tapes on the ends well they are just ridiculous the arms have some weight in them and you could easily snap the tape measure off.

When its all assembled you have to think ahead!  IF you want your fence on or off as when its all attached you can not remove or move your fences acrross very annoying so more time wasting

In my opinion its a waste of money! BUT if its working for you then its working for you but mine just sits in the garage collecting dust as it has no use for site work IF you have a work shop and you set it up and left it up then yes its better but you still have the fence support problem.

That's why I bought the UG-Kapex and left and right arm extensions when it first was released in the UK. Much better for site use in some cases only one trip but most cases two trips is required to get it onto the job.

I was worried about the fences at first but, I rarely bevel anything at 45.

The do need one adjustable leg.  Sometime this winter I will make that up.

The tape measures are now on a shelf in the garage.

I leave all the parts on the extensions and I made a vertical holder for them in my trailer.

They are not too bad.  I don't think they are quite worth the 700.00 price tag over here though.

I paid what I thought was a good price for them.

It takes 4 trips for sure.

I still prefer the kapex mft/3 over a rolling stand.
The rolling stand takes up more floor space then how I keep my parts now.

Oh you dont use 45 a lot well its okay for you then! IT was a big flaw for me not being able to 45 cut with this set-up without hassle. I cant believe you dont bevel at 45 often lucky for you really.

I dont understand when yu say rolling stand you mean Ug stand right?!  If so I dont understand what you mean it takes up more room.  Where do you store your kapex its self? As the Ug stand standing up does not take up any more room than the kapex its self lying flat.

I usually keep both tables stored upright strapped against the wall in my trailer.

Kapex has a spot on the floor and the extensions ride vertically in a cubby I slapped together for them.

I think I have cut 2 bevels with the extensions, you can just loosen the crown stop extension and slide it out of the way.

I think you posted pictures of you kapx on the UG in your van.

I don't like leaving a stand upright with a saw on it, I think it wreaked havoc on my old 12" Bosch.

I'm a bit curious, JMB...

Can you please show us some of your projects?

I've been a recipient of many of your reviews of a plethora of tools and I'm curious what you make with them. You seem to have a very full tool collection.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Sorry Im tool mad!  Well I started collecting most my tools while I was on the books instead of spending on drinking! I would accasionally use the tools but being on the books tools should be supplied so I used the companies.  As I got more and more tools and the company saw how usefull I was with them the company demanded more and more from me and asking me if I could use he tools to get the job done quicker! And saying they will pay me extra to use the tools I started to think I am working like a contractor. So when working 6/7 days a week 7 till 7 I was thinkin I should be getting more money than this. I told the boss I was thinking of leaving. He said well what do you want paying?! I thought to my self! If I dont do it now I can see my self being stuck working for some one the rest of my life.  So I said to him no mater what you pay me I am still leaving. He said fair enough if it does not work out give me a call and ill take you back on. The forman calls me up every month to see how I am doing! Nice firm to work for really!

So I decided to go self employed which again gave me another BOOST to buy more tools as I didnt have everything because the company had them so I didnt need to.  Things like ladders and scaffolding where the main things really which I had to buy once leaving the firm.      I decided to buy a run down house really cheap and use that as my back up plan if I dont get much work! So atleast I am still working and once I sell it it will give me a nice little wage.

Any way answer to your question! Yeah ill load up some pictures of some jobs I have done.

Cheers
