Usefulness of the 0 Degree Base Unit for the MFK700

I have searched and read as much as I could, but have found very little comment about the uses of the 0 Degree Base Unit.  I am seriously considering picking it up while it is available at a reduced cost, but only if it will have valid uses.  I am thinking that there might be good reasons to have it, but if anyone has both and has positive things to say about the optional base, I would like to know.  Thanks in advance.

Well that's an old dusty (even for Festool) thread.

I use the 0 degree base all the time for flushing banding.  I modified mine so it has enough capacity for a 3/4" cutter and I found a fantastic down-spiral 8mm bit.  It leaves glass.

Can't use the 1.5 degree for that since mating surfaces will show the minimal gap the 1.5 makes.  Thinking of shelves in dados.

Since the minimum size I make the banding is 5/8", the Festool bit doesn't work for me.

Here's the posting on my blog about the modification.  In my MFK-700 review video, I mentioned the modification and believe mentioned using a 1/4" down-spiral.  Some people tried this modification to the 1.5 degree base and, on that base, the 1/4" won't get all the way down at the furthest reaches.  Regardless the base you use, the Vortex Tools 8mm down-spiral referenced in that blog article (which I updated with the Vortex info) will work with room to spare.

The bloke who started this thread has properly left fog now lol as his first post no one welcomes him nor helped him out with his question an it was posted ages ago! He has not posted since!  Poor guy shame on you Foggers!

Well at least he was not given the big f cough biscuit, like the guy who had a problem with his festool vac [big grin]

I really dont understand why Festool didn't make it this way in the first place or not have changed it since releasing it in NA. 3/4" nosing seems to be commonplace on this side of the pond.

I think the most common use is for Formica and equivalents. You first apply the edge then trim it with the 0-degree band and apply the horizontal sheet.
