Using part of a domino to make a slot less deep?

I intended to use 15mm and 25mm slots for a 6x40 domino, but stupidly cut both 25mm.  Fortunately it didn't do any damage, but now there is no way to get the domino positioned as I wanted.
Can I cut a few dominoes into 10mm lengths and put them in the slot that was supposed to be 15mm?  I don't see that glue is really necessary.

Anything wrong with this fix?

Cant you just glue a regular domino into the mortise then cut flush.  You can then re cut the domino to the depth you want.  Or am i missunderstanding you completely ?

Maybe I didn't explain it well enough.
I wanted to cut a 15mm deep slot and carelessly cut a 25mm deep slot.

If I cut some dominoes into 10mm long pieces and shove one into the 25mm deep slot, won't it be the same as a 15mm deep slot?

Yea, that would work but i just think it would be easier to fit a domino & re cut rather than fiddle with a small cutting of the end of a domino.

What about glueing the domino into the slot that was cut correctly first, then once it's dry fit the pieces together. That seems like the easiest way unless there is some requirement keeping you from doing that.

I can't put it in the intended 25mm slot first because those are cut wide, while the intended 15mm slots are cut narrow.

Cutting the domino into quarters (4x10mm) is easy enough on a scroll saw.

Glue in one domino held to one side of the wider mortise, then when the glue has set up, cut off the excess and re-mortise it to cover the other part of the wider mortise and glue in a second domino.  When that has set up, cut off the excess and mortise it where it should have been and at the correct depth.  End of story.

I would go with your original thought. Stick a Domino 10mm into the standard slot, cut off flush with a flush cut saw, knock it further into the hole with a tool with a blunt/smooth edge, apply glue, fit new full sized Domino, tap fully into hole, job done.

Toller, you didn't say originally you had cut the slot wider.  What Willie said !

He hadn't, he said the wider slot was the one to have the 25mm depth, the narrow slot is to have the 15mm. So he needs to reduce the narrow slots depth by 10mm.

Yep, just do as you originally planned.....  Cut off a piece of domino to fill the deeper mortise, but would advise you definitely do a dry fit before glue up.  Probably wouldn't hurt to cut the filler domino to 8mm instead of 10mm if you glue it, as the glue will use up some of the space, but I see no need in gluing the filler domino....

Just use a pencil to mark the depth you need on one side of the joint and glue that domino in first, clean up the excess glue and let it dry.  Then you can glue up the second depth without worry about the dimensions.
