Using the Domino to laminate panels?

Anyone use the Domino to laminate panels together to make a thicker board? For example laminating two 4/4 boards to make an 8/4.

It should work well, I feel that there will be less waste this was than cutting both oversized then bringing them to the jointer then table saw. I would joint, plane and cut to final width on table saw, then use Dominos for alignment and glue them together.

I think it will be completely unnecessary. Are you worried the two parts will slide out of alignment when clamped? Just use another clamp to keep edges flush with each other.

Thanks, I've had some issues laminating long boards and maintaining them perfectly even all along, that would probably be easier.

Another way might be to use reference surfaces on the bottom and edges to line up the pieces and use a 23 gauge pinner to tack each piece of the lamination on.  The pins should prevent the side to side movement when you clamp everything up.  That should be very fast with a minimum of expense.

I typically rough cut my stock to width when I want to face glue them. I find it much easier to trim them to exact width after the glue dries.

Done it many times and it works exactly as you would expect, but it will not completely stop all slippage during clamping as there's always a tiny bit of wiggle room. You should expect to flush trim via some means no matter what and then be pleasantly surprised when one doesn't need it.

I have used this method to join 2 thinner board into a thicker board,
you dont need a Domino to do this task, there are many ways, below are the one I have used:

Dowel method.
1. drill a hole through the panelsand then put a dowel between them.
2. clamp and glue
3. cut off the bit with the exposed dowel

Make a form work.
If you do a lot of these glue ups, maybe its better to make a form work and then clamp/glue your panels within the form work, need to be careful with the glues.
