I guess this would be mostly for Shane but all comers are welcome ;D

I was about to finally use the gallery today and ran into a few stumbling blocks. No big deal I am intelligent enough to deal with those. however, after reading several threads relevant to the use of the gallery, it left me with a bunch of questions as far as what is 'current info' with regards to the gallery software. do we have a current FAQ re: the gallery

I know that recently Shane has done a lot of work with the server back-end, I am wondering if more storage space is available than the 1MB that the gallery states. It doesn't seem like very much, especially when one considers the unwritten forum rule of: "if you got no pictures, it didn't happen"  [laughing] I had a bunch of pictures that I wanted to post, ideally to my album first.

In the end, I suppose that it might be easier to post my images to a forum thread first, then back-link them to the gallery as the resizing will already have been taken care of by the forum software. However that method seems like a horrible waste of bandwidth, so I'll do the resize locally.

Harry,

I don't see any settings on the gallery software that limit the capacity of an album. If you try to upload images and run into problems, just shoot me a PM and I'll check it out in more detail.

With our old hosting provider, we had fairly limited storage capacity (2GB) which I had to upgrade numerous times over the last year. With the new server, I have over 450GB of space. So, storage capacity is no longer an issue.

I have to ask - is the 1 meg limit "per picture"?  I have had to down-size pictures to upload to meet that criterion.

[huh]

Ok, I had to look up where that setting was, it wasn't in an obvious location. Anyway, I've increased the album size to 50MB, which should be adequate.

I haven't made any modifications to the gallery software since we took ownership of the forum, so any documentation should be up-to-date with the exception of album capacity that I just changed.

In all honesty, I think the gallery software is cumbersome to use. It would recommend that members use a solution like Google's Picasa which provides 1GB of free capacity. There are also other free options out there that are a lot more robust and easy to use.  I've noticed a number of members here are already using Picasa.

Others include Flickr, Photobucket, Windows Live Skydrive, etc., etc.

I should say that my recommendation of these other solutions does not mean that I won't continue to support the forum's gallery software and offer assistance to members. I am simply offering some alternatives that may be easier to use.
