Good Evening,

I seem to recall a post a while back about the vacuum hose and cord combination (very neat item I have seen in ads but never in person). I forget who took the initiative to look in to it. Where can I get it, is it a European item only? Please excuse the placement of this post as I am FOG neophyte. As with everyone whom posts here I do appreciate the guys that take the time to care for such neat and well kept discussion board.

Please and Thanks for any information in advance

The hose/cord combo is not available in N. America. If you do a search you'll find posts on other ways to manage the cord and hose. I use Velcro straps to attach my cord to the hose.

I noticed the combo cord/hose in my German catalog (item 456746) a few weeks ago.  At 143 Euro ($186), I would go with the velcro strips, too.  I haven't seen where it is available in the States yet, but I expect that it will make it's way across the ocean eventually.

Thanks,

Velcro it is...but I'd rather spend a buck eighty-six on the combo.

maybe you missed that it is a hundred and  eighty-six bucks not "a buck eighty-six"
but Velcro is not the only other option or IMHO the best.

You can have a combo option that is better than the festool  option for a little work and 1/3rd the price

This idea comes from this board and works well, in fact it is much better than the Festool option as the hose now does not have ribs to catch on the edges of your rails or material.

Detached from the tools it is in the background of this pic.

FWIW This is part of a series of pics showing my method for making an MFT pattern workbench top. If there is anyone who wants this to be posted as a WIP (Work In Progress) I will. but as I only get to play every 4 months the next part will take a while to post.

Hi-Jerome is that smooth green hose available in the US? I don't see it in the US Festool
supplier listings.
Thanks

Yes but it isn't a hose  :o ;-) it is UV Reactive Expandable Braided Sleeving with shrink wrap on the ends
http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=1077.0
is one of the threads that provides info for this.

FWIW a 50' sleeve mini role may do 2 x 27mm and 1x 36mm standard length hoses. Also get the 3-1 or 4-1 Shrink wrap not the 2-1 DAMHIK

I got the 1.25 inch PET neon green sleeve from cableorganizer.com

Thanks for the info, looks worth it, I'm going order that, maybe even get some
hoses off the floor so I don't have to keep looking down to not trip.

This is a quick easy way to do that using sliding door track.

And a little more detail on the sleeve is here

Good Evening JeromeM,

Obviously a good man... Yes, that is better than Velcro, super clean and almost as good as the real-deal. Is this material similar to the Chinese finger "trap" trick or more like the protective sleeve that cutting tools are delivered in? If not, I bet these materials would take care of the "Plug-it" cord combination woes as well.

The "buck" prefix  may be a Wisconsin thing or possibly the Midwest, like I hit a "buck" twenty (120 mph) just prior to getting pulled over or I went to Woodcraft and spent a "buck" fifty ($150.00) on a pack of 25 Rubin sanding discs for the Rotex.

Just a footnote that there are a number of materials you may wrap your hose with. A manufacturer is sending me some samples of a similar material that is rated for a higher abrasion resistance than the more common wraps, more of an industrial product, I'll post my impressions when the samples arrive.

PS: One of my relatives used to have a girlfriend who's nickname was Sub-Buck, as she weighed less than 100 lbs.

Well a good learner  :o As neither the hose nor the sliding door track are original ideas. ;)

By that I guess you mean the Festool hose cable combination?

If so then for sure it is not " almost as good as the real-deal" but in fact much better.
As
1) you can choose which cable you use in the combination
2) the cable is outside the hose so neither restricts the airflow nor can be damaged by any debris in it
3) the outer surface is much smoother than any Festool option so minimizing the "hose catching on the edge of your material" effect which is so annoying

I'm not sure of either material but I would think the sleeve would be more wear resistant than the original hose . So in that case it is a better choice than the  "Plug-it" cord combination. Because it is not a very difficult job to replace the power cable if needed, or put a second different one in.

These sleeves would all be industrial.  :D The first poster used Gorilla Braided Heavy Duty Sleeving. I decided to use PET Expandable Braided Sleeving for a couple of reasons. First it is lighter and more flexable and I am unlikely to need the higher abrasion resistance as my use is almost 100% in the shop. Secondly it is 2/3 the price, though that is much less important.

One tip is to make sure you have all the extra cable at the Plug-It end so you can use it with any tool. If you look at the background of the pics carefully  you will see how I know that.  ::)

Also if you or anyone is going to order the shrink wrap for the sleeve ends can you contact me direct as I would like to get a little more and the only place I can find it charges  far too much for shipping.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a pic of my spaghetti, the cyclone is behind the sandpaper. I'm thinking of putting the vacuum up
in the rafters and using the sliding door track idea as my work table is long. The wrap will definitely get
on the todo list.

I like your cyclone setup. Mine is going to be beside my CT with systainer storage under the CT and a will include a water pipe boom arm
The sleeve is a really good mod as is the sliding door track.
