Vacuum hose enhancement

One of the annoying things about hooking vacuum or extractor hoses up to power tools is that most hoses have ridges.  These ridges tend to catch on corners of work pieces and the MFT table.  I decided to fix this annoyance by installing 1-1/2" expandable sleeving over the vacuum hose and plug it cord.  This eliminates all drag and catching on the corners and so far I have been very happy with the solution.  I almost went for the heavy duty abrasion resistant sleeving however, it was not available in neon green.  Only time will tell how well it holds up to abrasion.  I sealed the ends using Rescue Tape which only adheres to itself and it provides a conforming tight fit to the hose and connector.  I also inserted the plug-it cord inside to eliminate having to tie it off to the hose.

I got some just a few weeks ago for the hose on my new CT26. I'll find you a link.

EDIT:

Alan,

I got the braided sleeving here. I use 40mm stuff, which is big enough for the 27mm hose & a plug-it cord. Only available in black or grey though (no green!). I ordered 4 metres for the last one (you'll need about 3.5m total).

I have used adhesive lined heatshrink tubing on the ends of both mine. You'll need that at about 50 or 60mm. You need to be really, really careful with the heatgun though, to avoid melting the braiding or the hose! [eek]

It's a very good idea, it does stop the hose catching though sometimes the braiding itself can catch on very sharp corners. It doesn't last forever though - I did my first one about 4 years ago, and it's now starting to look a little bit tatty!

I did purchase the sleeving from CableTiesandmore.  I didn't realize this had been discussed in so many threads.

Neither did I Steve, and I would like to thank you for bringing it up once again it seems, as I finally got to get them just now.  Not to say I wouldn't have have done so sometime down the road, but it was your thread today that I have to thank. [thanks]

And a thank you to GPowers for posting those links as well. [smile]
